Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Question for the Moderators

Everyone here knows I'm a democrat and, for the most part, everyone chooses to respect my opinions as I usually back them up with why I believe in what I do. Of course, there are some who choose to blatantly disregard what I have to say, but, more power to them, its a free country and being ignorant to another party's opinions is their right. That being said, I want to know if the moderators here are given permission to let personal preference and opinion into the matter when choosing what posts should and should not be deleted. There is a post on here now where "Niger" (not the country!) is being used as casually as possible and it is seemingly left alone, but, when I respond to that with a derogatory term written in **** the post gets deleted. Mind you, the derogatory term was not used at anyone nor was it used saying that another post was "blanking stupid" or anything, it was used in an analytical sort of way.

I've noticed in other forums how two people can make the nearly the same post and if the poster is a well known name there post doesn't get moved or deleted and if the post is a newbie it gets moved almost immediately. Are the moderators really allowed to show such bias? I may have overlooked it in the HNI guidelines, but I guess I just assumed you guys are expected to be a non-bias third party. I could have been wrong. I know I've had disagreements over certain politcal and religious issues before with the moderators, however, I'm never deragtory towards others nor do I ever cross the line with respects to ethics or, in all reality, politcal correctness (take it for what its worth).

All this being said, I guess I want to know if you guys (the mods) do exercise discression when deleting posts, or, if you delete posts based more up on the poster his/herself more than the post itsself. Again, this isn't based solely upon my posts being deleted here, more so of through out the entire forums. For a group so hard up on not having gun control, it seems as though there is a mighty strong urge to take away free spech, especially from those with whom you disagree.

Finally, I don't mean to step on any toes or take shots at anyone. I just as feel as though an explanation is due.

The thread needs to be deleted! Who cares if a wahoo's feelings are hurt?[8D] Heck they get hurt every basketball season. You would think he would be use to it by now.

Got a nice championship ring from when I was on the team that says otherwise

I was thinking the EXACT same thing and I agree with most of what you've said (except for being a democrat). I read Duane's post earlier and it stayed up for quite some time. I unfortunately did not see what you posted in response but whatever it was I'm sure it wasn't as inflamatory or degrading as what he posted. But like you, I've noticed the same thing. I guess those on this site do not care as much about minority views considering the fact that the majority posters on this board are white. For the record though, Wahoo I have no idea if you're white, black, blue, or red but the fact is that what this guy posted was out of line and nothing was done about it. How much do you wanna bet that nothing happens to him??? This isn't just about this guy though...it's about this site. I like it here. I don't always agree with everyone here but for the most part I've gotten along with everyone, give or take a few. But I will say that it is people like fellow that posted his comments earlier and those that think its funny that give all whites a bad name. Just my opinion...

Since the buyout, it is very rare to see a moderator on any of the forums I frequent. You would think they would ask for 5 or 6 to volunteer for new mods. Years ago there would be a mod checking in on the different forums very frequently.

FWIW, Mods are unpaid volunteers and still have to work our day jobs. Some days we have more free time to moderate and others we don't. Although we do try to catch violations of HNI rules and correct them, we don't see or catch everything (kind of like fishing). Similarly, HNI's filter program doesn't catch everything either. We still depend a lot on HNI members to either file a regular complaint or PM/Email a mod and give us a heads up on a rules violation. If you are going to PM/Email us about a violation, please give us the forum, topic name and page # so we can find it easier and resolve the problem quicker.

Although each mod has their own opinions and political beliefs (just like all of our members), we moderate and edit violations of HNI rules, regardless of your political position and whether we agree with you or not. There are times when we will miss something and it will perhaps look like a member is being given some kind of free pass to disobey the rules. There are no free passes and a heads up to a mod will enable us to correct the problem quicker and keep a forum cleaner.

If you still have questions or other concerns, please email or PM me and I will do my best to get you an answer.

It would be a great help if there was a direct link for reporting problems to HNI, or a way to get up with a mod. I know in the past I have tried to find one and it might take 2 or so days before you can find one to report a problem.

I agree Wahoo. But like Cal said, its hard for them to read everything. We need to help police and report these things.

There is a "Report" option at the upper right corner of each post.
