Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Presidential Debates

The first one is kind of up in the air. McCain says he wants to delay it in order to focus on the bailout crisis, but Obama is saying he doesn't want to delay things.

Doesn't McCain as a Senator need to get involved in this Crisis and vote on it? I know oBama is an absentee Senator since day 1 so day to day affairs probably don't bother him.

McCainsays its critical right now - more important that anything and he's doing it.

Obama don't have a choice, he can join McCain's lead or not. He can't debate someone who isn't there

debating now, while wall street burns, is to obama's advantage.

debating later, after (presumably) the fires are dampened, is to mccain's.

hence their respective positions.

remember McCains words he'd rather "lose an election than lose a war",do you not think that theory applies here? This also implies that Hussein's debates are more important then our current economic status as I read it. Te real intentions and honor of these gentleman are starting to rise to the top.

McCain holds the current championship for being an absentee Senator, so you can forget that bit about Obama.

I just think McCain is simply afraid to face Obama in a real debate. Of course, that's exactly what you guys would have said if the situation was reversed and it was Obama wanting to delay. Right?

But yeah. I think both of them need to get involved in this mess and keep their people straight. One or the other of them is going to inherit this dung pile that Bush is leaving behind and have to deal with it.

This is some kind of political ploy on the part of John McCain; he and Barack Obama are just two out of one hundred senators and neither is in a leadership position in the Congress whose participation would be required to broker a deal between the Congress and the White House on what to do about the economic crisis.

One of them is going to be the new President in a few months and their primary obligation now is to demonstrate to the public who is more qualified for the position. John McCain wants to suspend the presidential race and delay/cancel the debates (the only chance we get to see the candidates side by side in a relatively unscripted venue) so that he can facilitate a solution to the impasse. Give me a break! This is the man who admits he is not into economics and is not a significant figure in the Congress on economic policy but somehow he is going to save the day by foregoing the debate on National Security, supposedly his strongest area of expertise. McCain's views will only be relevent to the economic issue if he is elected President and the election is still 6 weeks away.

I think what has happened is that McCain now realizes that the election will be determined by the economy and since the polls show Obama is favored on this issue by the majority of the electorate, McCain needs to pull some sort of stunt to convince the voters he is suddenly the candidate most interested in economic policy. He has gotten about as much mileage out of Sarah Palin as he can get and needs to do something new that is dramatic and changes the dynamics of the election. He is probably afraid that Obama might be a more formidable debater on the issue of National Security than many people think he is and McCain might sink further in the polls.

In the final analysis, what is happening is that the race is suddenly not going the way McCain and his people had scripted it and now he is grandstanding in the hope of getting some momentum back. However, I think the public will see through this cynical ploy and start to seriously wonder about McCain's fitness to be President.

I just saw the first of a two part Katie Kuric CBS News interview with Sarah Palin. I can tell you this....Biden will bury her in a head to head debate. I like her look and like the fact that since she is such an unknown and a woman...McCain strategically picked her as his VP. After the primary bump...she has to perform well and be an asset to his candidacy. She didn't come off as being able to answer anything. Perhaps she was having a bad day but she didn't appear able to answer any specific questions on McCain or the economy. Tomorrow night will be part two and will center on foreign affairs. I hope she is better prepared.
