Default Palin Let Victims Pay for the Crime!

Alaska has one of the highest rates of rape and sexual assault in the nation. So,

"Can you imagine having to pay for the CSI (crime scene investigation-fingerprinting, photography, etc) if your home was robbed? What if a bill came for the breathalyzer tests if you'd been hit by a drunk driver? When Sarah Palin was mayor, the city of Wasilla had the most egregious policy against victims of rape in the state of Alaska, possibly the entire country. The rape kit, a set of items used by medical personnel for gathering and preserving physical evidence following a sexual assault, was charged to the victim. "

Maybe you can explain why taxpayers should pay for the rape kit?
I don't get you liberals, first mayor of small town has no power or experience. And then blame her for the high rates of rape and sexual assault in the nation.
Here is an idea; could it be the male to female ratio

I hate to break it to you, but Alaska isn't the only place that hospitals do that. You go into a hospital for anything, they will bill you. Our victims caught a break if we got a crime lab unit to do the photos, but if the hospital did them, $$$. Hospitals are businesses.

Nice try Beau. That story was very far reaching at best. I can see how worried you all are with Palin. She's getting crowds in the 60K+ and Obama is now struggling to fill a small aditorium.

Where did you dig this story up, Beau? Did Obama's campaign email it to you? Seriously reaching, and going after the VP nominee is just sad. In two years people will forget who she is, win or lose.

Here you go Beau. This site is dedicated to setting the record straight about Palin. When I first posted this link, there was only 75 romurs. Now he's up in the high 80s. There is some red meat here but not enough to feed a liberal plate. You do eat meat don't you?

[ol][*]No, she didn"t try to charge rape victims personally for rape kits. This is one of those complicated ones with a tiny hint of truth behind it. First, the Chief of Police in Wasilla (not Palin) did apparently have a policy of asking a victim"s health insurance to pay for the rape kit as part of the ER visit. This, it turns out, is policy in a number of states, including Missouri and North Carolina. Second, the way this became an issue was after the then-governor of Alaska signed a bill forbidding it; this law was signed before Palin was Governor and no one tried to reverse it while she was Governor. Third, what the CoP in Wasilla wanted to do was charge the perpetrator as part of restitution. [/ol]

Oops.

I just hate it when facts get in the way of a good smear campaign.

If you believe Beau and his link, you'd think that women are being raped in the tiny town of Wasilla every day while Mayor Palin told them to go pay for their own examination. The truth is that based on the reported number of rapes during the 8 years Palin was mayor, the rape rate in Wasilla was LOWER than the U.S. national rate (which is 34 per 100,000).

Default RE: Palin Let Victims Pay for the Crime!

"She is a staunch opponent of reproductive freedom, taking a position that is extreme even within her own party: that women who are victims of incest or rape should be forced to bear the children of their attackers.

While she was mayor of Wasilla, her town was the only one in Alaska that required rape victims to pay for their own forensic tests. Charging victims for the "rape kits" necessary to collect evidence and convict sexual predators was a "cost-cutting" measure that continued until complaints about her administration's policy prompted the Alaska State Legislature to pass a bill that banned this anti-victim practice statewide.

And if "results" are what matter, we should consider this: Alaska has our nation's highest rate of reported forcible rapes per capita"21/2 times the national average, according to the FBI. Current and former officials from Palin's administration confirm that an ambitious plan to tackle the sexual violence crisis has apparently stalled after arriving at the governor's office."
[/align]http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/opinion/chi-feminist-palin-thinksep21,0,1435363.story

And we can trust her to handle any Wall Street crisis:

"We're going to reform the way Wall Street does business and stop the golden parachutes for CEOs who betray the public trust," she said.

This was the first time Palin had mentioned Wall Street in her stump speech. Mostly, she tends to reprise large portions of her nomination speech from the convention. Palin, herself, may not be the most authoritative spokesperson on such issues. In the past, when she ran for Alaska governor, she freely admitted to a reporter that she got a "D" in macroeconomics in college. "
