Default $700 billion for the bailout

Oh wow I just can't imagine that kind of debt added to the deficit.

Yep, it doeslook pretty scary. This is far from the end of it. As of now the bailout stands at 1.2 trillion including the 500 million bill passed by congress and signed by Bush. Looks like the total bailout will be 2-3 trillion in change.

Sad part is I don't think the feds had any choice, other than let the economy crash into a full depression.

I can't help but wonder if jeepkid is right. All this bailout stuff puts the fed itself near total collapse, and ENABLES those who made bad decisions like heroin for a junkie. Only the pain of total failure will lead to meaningful reforms in policy and reporting.
