Stock market is tanking so why does Obama insist on???
Keeping and increasing the capital gains tax. Hoovernomics is going to get us if he gets voted in. I sold some stock before the market tanked. When it takes its last dip, I"m going to reinvest in some low price, but stable stocks. If Obama gets voted in, I"ll be selling all my stock that next Wed. I assume many will. Why get nailed with a capital gains tax? I"ll be better off to take my profits and run.
Now if you Obama supporters can explain to me how a capital gains tax is going to stimulate the economy and entice people to invest, please do so, because I"m clueless how it is going to do anything but drive down the stock market.

...strictly for the sake of argument...

Substantially higher cap gains tax rates in the 90's did not preclude stock market values or prevent respectable growth in the GDP.

True, but you are not factoring in all the variables. It was a different animal and different time in the 90s.

One could argue that the higher cap gains rates actually kept the money invested for longer periods of time and thereby thwarted disintermediation and volatility.

Looks like cutting the cg tax didn't work either - else everything would be hunk-dory like the "trickle-down" model promised.
It aint' - so it didn't.

Agian, calculate in all variables. You are so narrow in your scope is scary. Look at the times, Look at what has brough on the problem. Look at the times we are headed into. Its not as easy as spitting out talking points.

Narrow of scope? WOW! You're the one railing over what a single CGtax change "might" do if it ever happens.
Now that's narrow. If it is so complicated as you propose, then one tax policy shouldn't make a difference.
It certainly didn't hurt the market during the Clinton Boom Years.

Again, take off your blinders. Clinton times were totally different than today. But I guess that would only prove my point.
Ohhhh Yeahhh, it was "different" back then so it is OK for you to be narrowly focusing on something "Now" like CG taxes - that conveniently allows you to preemptively smear Obama.
I get it,
Kinda likesaying "just 'cause" or "I know you are but what am I?"

OK, I'm a bit confused, yesterday the Obama campaign said that there would be tax cuts for 95% of working Americans. How does this fit into this little thread?
