Seems like because of Mr IKe gas at gasoline stations1000 miles away have jumped up 10 and 20 % in some areas. I remember living thru 2 gas shortages and it seemed like Gas station operators were led off in handcuffs when they tried to gouge. Does anyone live in a state that enforces this sort of stuff?

Why is it that it takes so long for gas prices to go down when oil prices drop but prices go up before any damage to oil refineries occur?
A few members of congress know that oil speculation is as much to blame for the ungodly price hikes of oil as supply and demand, but nobody is willing to do anything about it.
not sure its IKE, but Iran or OPEC, saw on tv lately, reducing production, due to demand going down, ie due to the US recession of oil, makes me laugh, our gas prices are outrageous and we need more oil to bring them down, so what do they do? they shut down product, oh and I see they're getting more cars on natural gas, so they won't have to use their own oil? so funny.

I will agree with your candidate on this one. The speculators need to be run out. Obama has that one right.

Yep, they are going to screw the vice just tight enough on our gonads that we can just bearly walk. I agree, Pikens has it right on this one. Switch to CNG, drill our own oil, as we switch to alternatives.

You pay what you pay. If these gas prices don't go up in respose to shutting down some of our major refineries, our demend would remain the same and supplies will run out in areas. Furthermore, that worker who must work overtime to haul gas farther or to repair any damage or to increase output somewhere else wants to get paid also. I prefer to have the freedom to pull up to a pump anytime I feel I need to fill up and doing so. I don't want to wait in gas lines, I don't want to drive around looking for gas stations with gas. Bottom line if you feel gas is too high, don't buy it!

Remember, speculators are also the ones that drive the prices down...

I agree with FieldMouse. When hurricanes hit, people hoard goods. At least at a higher price, demand won't run gas stations out of gas, so those who really need it will have it to buy. I'd rather pay a higher price than wait in a 2 hour line and find they ran out of gas just before I was able to fill the tank.
As for speculators, I think they are an important part of the market for people to hedge their risk exposure. For every bet that prices will increase, there is a position against it. Speculators bet on the actual future spot marketprice. If things look bad on the supply side, futures go up, and vice versa.
its taking advantage of people in a time of need....plain and simple.
they could use a break at a time like this when hurricanes are pounding their homes and they have to pick up leave there jobs with the family.
the oil companys are taking advantage of the situation plain and simple....its a prettty dirtball thing to do if you ask me. Millions of people hit the roads to avoid the hurricane and in a time of needand BIGOIL****ed them.
DO the Hotels Raise the Price of thier rooms by 25$ a night???? that would be gouging too.
