Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Bush Tax Cuts

Any thoughts on what will happen to the economy in 2010 when the Bush taxes sunset and taxes raise by at least 10%?

In the words of a financial adviser I was talking to the other day, "neither of the candidates in this race have a clue about how to deal with money." Just wondering what you guys think will happen.

Do you have to ask me? Taxes are way to high today! Spending is out of control and heading for a inevitable train wreck.

Well, if the economy's cycle is on the upswing at the time, the short term effect will be great on the national budget, but there will be less money in the economy, so it will downswing again, lower than if there were less taxes all along.

I agree, hopefully we can get a pres. that will lower taxes, and not follow Bush Policy.

And your guy wants to rescind those cuts even before that "temporary" runs out. Good idea or bad idea?

The Republicans were idiots for not making the tax cuts permanent. They had the opportunity and didn't do it. They can use the "Well, we didn't have the 60 votes" excuse all they want, but that's just speculation now. Because they didn't even try. Which means, in my opinion, their excuse doesn't have a leg to stand on.

However, it wouldn't have mattered if they made them permanent or not. If Obama wins and has a Democratic House and Senate at his back, even permanent tax cuts would be in jeopardy.

And raise all kinds of other taxes... What effect do you suppose doubling the capital gains tax will have on investment?
