There is all kinds of conjecture about the Koran. Most of that conjecture is flat wrong. The Koran contains the Old Testament as we know it. Because the Koran was translated from Aramaic directly to Arabic there arefew minor things that are different from the English version.
Worked in the middle east for many years with good Muslims from many countries. Only oneguy, a Sudanese named Mutawakil, was a religious zealot. Was not surprised to learn that he joined the Taliban about 1992 and was killed in Afghanistan a few years later.
Religious craziesare not peculiar to Islam. IMO:If Christians ran this country as a dictatorship it would be as screwed up asthe Muslim ran countries.
Have read the Koran through several times in English and Arabic. The Koran does not state all of the crazy stuff attributed to that document.
The craziness comes from the madrassas and other religious schools. Have you seen all those kids with their Korans in the madrassas? 90 percent of those kids cannot read their names inneon lights, they are illiterate.Madrassa students learn a bowdlerized Koran by memorizing what the instructor says.
An illiterate person is open tomanipulation by religious leaders. Look at the CatholicChurch in the middle ages. Unless one was very, very wealthy one did not own a Bible. Then along came Gutenburg and ruined things for the church because suddnly Bibles became more affordable.
There is the Koran and there are tribal and bedouin traditions. the wearing of the veil does not come from the Koran: It predates the Koran by thousands of years-a bedouin tradition.
