The Democratic Party is one of two major political parties in the United States, the other being the Republican Party. It is the oldest political party in continuous operation in the United States and it is one of oldest parties in the world.[4][5][6]
The Democratic Party traces its origins to the Democratic-Republican Party, founded by Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, and other influential opponents of the Federalists in 1792. However, the modern Democratic party truly arose in the 1830's, with the election of Andrew Jackson. Since the division of the Republican Party in the election of 1912, it has consistently positioned itself to the left of the Republican Party in economic as well as social matters. The economically activist philosophy of Franklin D. Roosevelt, which has strongly influenced American liberalism, has shaped much of the party's economic agenda since 1932. Roosevelt's New Deal coalition usually controlled the national government until the 1970s. The civil rights movement of the 1960s has continued to inspire the party's liberal principles, despite having lost the more conservative South in the process.
The Republican Party is one of the two major contemporary political parties in the United States, along with the Democratic Party. It is often referred to as the Grand Old Party or the GOP. Founded in 1854 by anti-slavery expansion activists and modernizers, the Republican Party quickly surpassed the Whig Party as the principal opposition to the Democratic Party. In 1860, it came to power with the election of Abraham Lincoln to the presidency. The party presided over the American Civil War and Reconstruction and was harried by internal factions and scandals toward the end of the 19th century. Today, the party supports a conservative platform (from an American political perspective), with further foundations in supply-side fiscal policies, and social conservatism.

My how things have changed for both parties, Seems like they have almost reversed in some aspects.
This is my opionion based on observationsI have made through the years.
Jimmy Carter was a great guy, loved to quail hunt and still does. However, he was a bad president. During his administrationthe economywas turning bad,gas problem in the 70s, Housing market was the worst it had ever been. I remember the intrest rates were unreal.
President Reagan came in and instantly solves a terrriost problem with hyjacking airplanes. He turned the economy around and made it so people could buy houses and go to work again. His economic policies laid down in the 80s supported a strong economy well into the 1990s. We had little to no terriost problems when he was in office. USAand Israel worked very close together to keep the terrorists in check.
President Bush hadthe job of a short war in Iraq followed by a slowing economy after many years being good. The economy was fixed and the world was safe by the time
President Clinton came into office. Clinton rode a good ride with economy doing well and the majority ofterriost activity fixed.
The internet startedgrowing at this time and with the growth of new technology the stock markets and the economy flurished. By the end of his term this Nation was on the rode for a bad time.
The stock marketstarted falling in mid 1999 and by the time
George W. Bush took office this country was headed into a full recession.Allot of people were already out of work. Terriost threats and the 911 led us into a war. That we needed to get under control. For the past 8 years this country has had a ruff time to say the least. I think that China, Mexico, Canada, and allot of other countries have done very well. I would contribute this to the passing of NAFTA and other legislationthat impacts of trade and incentives for American companies tomanufacture goods outside this country hashurt us in a waythat will take decades to fix.
I thank the Democrats for this.
No elected President is going to be able to fix all the problems we have now. Obama is saying change, but I bet it is not going to be a good one.
We need a Leader who will be able to get the terriost back under control and finish this mess in the middle east. We need a Leader who will close our boarders and keep our jobs for Americans. We need a Leader who will use our natural reasources for the short time it is going to take to fix this dependance on foriegn oil.We need a Leader to cut big goverment spending and waste. Not add to it.
We do not need more gun control, we need boarder control. We do not need a liberal goverment spending all of tax dollars on health benifits for illegal immigrants. We need to fix our health care system and goverment can not do it.
Vote for McCain to save our country and our way of life.
The adverage citizen has more power than we think. We vote every day with our dollar bills. If you don't like Walmart selling China goods, quit buying stuff from them.
