What do you mean by your post Charlie? This soldier was talking about the everyday people in Iraq. Are you saying they're all terrorists or that they don't want the opportunities to make a living, raise their families, not be killed by murderous terrorist thugs and not have freedom? I don't want to put words in your mouth so exactly what are you saying about the Iraqi people?

I'm saying their culture is nothing like ours. They wouldn't know what to do with freedom, they are still living in 18th Century and aren't worth one American life.
They will resort back to their ways soon after we leave, it's the way is been and will be over there and we thinbk we are goingt to change it?
What's going to happen when they elect a strict Fundamentalist Islamic goverment?

Fair enough. I think most Iraqis probably do want the ability to make a living and raise their families. We may not agree on politics or religion but I think these concepts are pretty basic to human beings IMHO.

It is good that a soldier believe that the folks he is helping are "just like us." We believed the same thing of the South Vietnamese as their adult males wussed off in Saigon bars while US troopsfought and died for them. Spent many years in the middle east and can tell you that thereis no tradition of democracythere outside of young Israel. There is a tradition of family, tribe and tribal coalition, that is it. Tribal coalitions are very fluid with tribes changing sides. Arab citizens of the middle east could care less about democracy.
It does not matter whether US troops leave tomorrow or20 years from now;Iraq is goingback to a dictatorship. They will have elections where the PM and his party get 90 percent of the vote; just like Egypts' Mubarak andIraqs' Saddam.Iraq will be ruled by adictatorial Shiite majority government allied very closely with Iran.Iraqmay even become one with Iran in a huge Shiite country ruled by sharia law.
