Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Folding the Flag

Anybody else out there notice how often you' ll see the flag incorrectly folded, wadded up, drug on the ground etc?
Last November I was an election official and when I mentioned something about not wadding up the flag in a box, two people looked at me like I was some kinda nut. I was never in the military, but I guess it was all those years of color guard duty in the Boy Scouts.

Default RE: Folding the Flag

The flag is a very special thing...Some folks will never understand it' s importance to a select group of us Americans...

To some it is just a " thing" ...With only a faint value...Something to be honered at parades because folks tell them it should be honored...They are not sure WHY...But they are sure that it is expected of them,,,so they do it.

But to many, it has a life of it' s own...It' s one of those things that you can never quite put to words.

Heritage, Honor, Values, Respect,...All are words that you can put in a paragraph to Help describe your feelings for it...But just like describing love...It can never be put into words...

You either KNOW you have it...or you THINK you do.

I have a couple of flags that have special meaning to me. One of them was the one that was flown in my Dads yard...He wore out quite a few before he died...But this one was the one he was flying when he died,,,So I keep that one in a box...Another one my sister has...It has twenty one shell casings folded up in it,,,It' s on her wall. I have a couple of others that hold deep sentiment for me also...They are in appropriate locations also.

The flag is one of those things that is beyond words and actions.

I have the utmost disdain for those who knowingly disrespect the flag...In fact, I think that they ought to have their heads bashed in...

BUT...

There are many folks who are just to dumb to understand the whole concept of what the flag is all about...So, if it' s an act of stupidity, and not an act of malice, I try to educate them on their stupidity rather than get really " worked up" about it.

Usually, a swift kick in the butt works.

Default RE: Folding the Flag

This is a very good topic, JoeA.....thanks for bringing it up. I have promoted " flag etiquette" since my days in scouting and then the military. Not only is it important how to fold the flag, there are a lot of things about displaying the flag that a lot of people don' t know. A very good website on flag etiquette is
