An estimated 123 people were shot and killed over the summer. That's nearly double the number of soldiers killed in Iraq over the same time period.
In May, cbs2chicago.com began tracking city shootings and posting them on Google maps. Information compiled from our reporters, wire service reports and the Chicago Police Major Incidents log indicated that 123 people were shot and killed throughout the city between the start of Memorial Day weekend on May 26, and the end of Labor Day on Sept. 1.
Like I always say, Democrats think that gun control laws will prevent this kind of thing from happening. The people that want to killothers already have guns.

all 50 states need a concealed carry law for all, no gun free zones....
Little good a gun will do you when you need it and don't have it, because it's illegal to carry at that moment.
They never say on the news about these gang bangers, etc....gun violence, that all of them were illegally carrying a gun, its almost never ther esponsible gun owner, who legally had a gun killing etc...
Heroin is outlawed, but that doesn't prevent heroin from being readily available. In fact, the outlawing of heroin and other drugs provides a fertile underground economy for vicious criminals to grow rich and fund their empire.
I think that concealed carry should not merely be allowed it should be manadatory for every adult citizen who should also be required to practice monthly so they are each crack shots. What do you suppose would happen to crime then??? I'm only sort of joking. I am not personally a concealed carry person. I would do that if I lived in an unsafe area or felt I went in harms way often enough to need that tool. I think we ought all to have this freedom, however, because some places and some people DO need the protection.
Of all the recent gun violence in Chicago, (like the 10 year-old girl shot this weekend while tying her sister's shoe), I cannot think of one instance in which more liberal gun laws would have prevented the crime. The young girl was caught in a gang crossfire. Its kind of low to use a tragic situations to score political points.
The OPfalls intowhat is called the 'post hoc' fallacy: Don't confuse an antecedent with a cause.

Excuse me, but the Dems use "tragic situations to score political points" on a pretty regular basis. i.e. virtually every time there's a killing, there's outcry for more gun laws; after Katrina, it was "Bush hates black people," somebody sets off a bomb in Iraq and it's "Bush lied, people died." Clean your own house first.

That's the 'you do it, too!' statement from junior high. People died in the hurricane's aftermath and in war due to the mistakes of government, and the head of the government. Criticism of such is legitimate and not exploiting tragedy. Chicago's gun laws do not cause gang killings nor is Chicago's government responsible for gang shootouts.
I think more lax gun laws WOULD help, since the punk thugs know they'd more often be targets themselves instead of just bullies. Where CAC is allowed, punks think twice about brandishing guns.
