Default 5 deferments, asthma kept Biden out!

I post this as only a response to so many on this board who refer to Bush, who served in the National Guard and Cheney who had 5 deferments as that some how disqualified you into believeing they have any right to be in their position, will you be consistant? I do know names but want to see how you now feel.

Deferments, asthma kept Biden out of Vietnam
By RANDALL CHASE "“ 2 days ago
DOVER, Del. (AP) "” Democratic vice presidential nominee Joe Biden received five student draft deferments during the Vietnam War, the same number of deferments received by Vice President Dick Cheney, and later was disqualified from service because of asthma as a teenager.
Officials with Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama's campaign released Biden's Selective Service records at the request of The Associated Press. Less detailed records were available from a National Archives facility in Philadelphia.
According to the documents, Biden, 65, received several deferments while he was an undergraduate at the University of Delaware and later as a law student at Syracuse University. A month after undergoing a physical exam in April 1968, Biden received a Selective Service classification of 1-Y, meaning he was available for service only in the event of national emergency.
"As a result of a physical exam on April 5, 1968, Joe Biden was classified 1-Y and disqualified from service because of asthma as a teenager," said David Wade, a campaign spokesman.
In "Promises to Keep," a memoir that was published last year and became an instant best-seller after he was tapped as Obama's running mate, Biden never mentions his asthma, recounting an active childhood, work as a lifeguard and football exploits in high school.
The Obama campaign pointed to media interviews from 1987, when Biden was making his first bid for the presidency, that mention his asthma.
Military service and questions about which presidential ticket would be stronger on national security are intertwined in the presidential race. Republican John McCain, a former Navy pilot who spent 5 1/2 years in a Vietnamese prison, has argued that he has stronger background to be commander in chief. Democratic nominee Barack Obama counters that McCain would continue a wrong-headed foreign policy from the Bush administration.
Biden has had extensive experience with national security issues in the Senate. McCain's running mate, Sarah Palin, has been Alaska governor for two years and before that was a small-town mayor.
Biden's five student deferments equal the number given to Vice President Dick Cheney, who has been quoted as saying he had "other priorities" than military service in the 1960s.
According to records AP obtained from the National Archives, Biden registered Feb. 15, 1961, with the Selective Service, when he was an 18-year-old student at Archmere Academy in Wilmington. The archives documents do not include any information about his classification or physical exam.
Documents provided by the Obama campaign indicate Biden received a classification questionnaire in October 1963, when he was enrolled at the University of Delaware, and received his first 2-S student deferment a month later. Additional deferments were granted in roughly 12-month intervals, the last coming in January 1968, shortly before he graduated from law school at Syracuse University.
Then in April 1968, when he was 25, Biden was disqualified from service due to asthma.

The Plagiarist lied and still lies frequently. The same guy that said Obama was not fit for higher office and that McCain was more qualified for that position. There is probably a snowballs chance in hell that the media demands an investigation of his background. They would rather pick on a 17 year old girl. Shows how slimy they really are. Scum of the earth

Lack of military service only disqualifies Republican candidates (Quayle, Bush Cheney, Gingrich). Democrats are not held to that standard(Clinton, Obama, Biden).

Yeah, the media is really carrying the ball this week. "Anbar Province has been turned over to the Iraqis? There are parades in the streets, and it's safe enough for our soldiers to march in it with no armor, no helmets, and no guns? Who cares!!! A 17 year old is pregnant!!!"

Liberal media at its finest.

Are they held to ANY standard? Seems to me that Biden, the guy who is supposed to lend weight and credibility to the ticket in foreign affairs, and who voted against Gulf War 1, for Gulf War 2, and spoke out against the surge, makes a habit of being wrong more often than not...

Bush was in the military... well, reserves anyway - at least when he wasn't AWOL. I don't see how you can hold it against a guy who had student deferments though. Every male going to college during the draft had deferments. Then to bash him for being disqualified from service for an illness? That's really pretty stupid.

You know.. the leftists do it pretty regularly if it's a Republican that had the deferments. Cheney has been repeatedly referred to here as a chickenhawk because of his deferments. As far as his "illness", I don't know. I'd really need to see some credible medical reports. His biography apparently touts his athletic achievements, etc. and doesn't mention anything about his heroic struggle against assmar... And, I've never heard him wheezing during any of his 30 years worth of long-winded speeches. Seems to me that if the guy was in such sad shape, he'd try to moderate the length of his oratory. Yet, he's know as won of the longest winded members of Congress.

Bidenisjust like allthe other cowards who dodged the draft during the Viet Nam war. Biden has no real experience at anything except ultra-liberal politics.
