Default Gustav and the GOP

I guess everyone knows the Republicans are talking about delaying their convention because of the likelihood of Hurricane Gustav hitting the U.S.

Quote:
Some Republicans bemoaned an apparent GOP curse when it comes to summer storms and noted the contrast between the approach of Gustav and the sunny weather in Denver for the Democrats.

"The Republicans can"™t seem to catch a break when it comes to August and when it comes to the weather," Karl Rove, a former Bush adviser, said on Fox News.
I wonder.... Remember Focus on the Family's video?

Quote:
"Would it be wrong if we asked people to pray for rain?"

Stuart Shepard, digital media director for Focus on the Family's "Focus Action," is hoping for sudden, heavy rain at Denver's Invesco Field at Mile High during the speech of a certain presidential nominee on August 28.

"Abundant rain," he quipped. "Torrential rain. Urban and small stream flood advisory rain."

"I know," Shepard said in the video. "You might ask, why would I pray for that? Well, I'm still pro-life. And I'm still in favor of marriage being only between one man and one woman. And I'd like the next President, who will select justices for the U.S. Supreme Court, to agree."

If God decides that "rain of biblical proportions would be a good and proper meteorological condition for that evening," he added, "we'll see it, and we'll say that it is good."

Focus on the Family pulled the video, originally released on July 30, and told The Gazette on Monday that they received complaints from some of their members, and that it was meant to be "mildly humorous."
Having a hurricane hit our shores is not funny and I'm certainly not making a joke of it, but the irony of it all has me shaking my head. Perhaps the Almighty is telling the conservatives He doesn't accept "just kidding" as an excuse. Don't pray for hardship on someone else or you'll get it instead, in spades.

I won't worry about it too much personally. It's nature for one and now they have a Republican in the Govenor position who actually has a clue to what's going on in his state.

I'm sure the Republicans have their heads buried in the sand, they are very worried that they might be forced to respond this time or lose this election. They will respond this time, with teeth clinched, they don't want to shell out a nickle for disasters. I hope the storm does not hit the coast, but if it does, I just hope the republicans can borrow a dollar to help an american for once. Perhaps they have alittle money left in their warmonger fund

I agree if and when it hits it going to carry alot of damage reguardless of where ever it hits land. ThoughI do not wish for it on anyone to have to go threw this mess again there is no doubt it very well could throw the elections away. I also hope that more refineries can be built away from the coasts to help keep them functioning longer so the price of feul can be a little bit more stable.

More baseless BS rainmaker. We've wasted over 100 billion dollars down there after Katrina. Do you call the chump change?

I'm sure Nagin will get everyone out this time - they are Obama voters.

I think it would be an awesome public image if McCain and Palin skipped the convention altogether, and went down there to encourage the victims and see the damage, and they'd just accept the nomination from ground-zero, it's a stretch, but knowing McCain, he's just full of all kinds oftricks up his sleeve, isn't he?

Yep, and hopefully this time they won't try and rebuild the stupid city!

The reason Nagin will perform better is because Jindal's foot will be periously close to his behind! I pray for as little damage & loss of life as possible, however NO will not just flounder around waiting for someone to come in to help - they're ready for it & the local/state response will be there this time.

That whole place should be leveled. Yes. I know it's where I was born boo-hoo but how much can the Federal government keep feeding to a city below sea level? I think costs for this one are around 6-10 billion $. How long are we gonna keep paying for a city that is built underwater?
