Senator Ted Stevens has just won the Republican primary forthe senate seat from Alaska which he has been warming for the past 34 years. This is despite the fact that he is under a federal indictment for criminal law violations.
Remember how people criticized the citizenry of DC for voting for Marion Barry? Or the NOLA folks for returning William Jefferson to Congress? That's right -- this is different. Jefferson had not been indicted when he was re-elected.
And Alaska's only congressman, Rep. Young, is also under a cloud of scandal. Fun guys these Alaska Republicans.
I thought your pal Berry was actually convicted. A little different than being "under indictment." Or, is it not "innocent until proven guilty" where you're from?
In other news... I believe I heard that the charges against Tom Delay are about to be dropped. It appears that the prosecutor, a left wing political hack, ruined Delay's career based on phony charges...
To date, William Jefferson has not been convicted of a dog-gone thing. So he and Stevens are in the same boat. But Jefferson was not indicted when he was re-elected and the conservatives crowed about a dumb citizenry in N'Awlins. What are they saying about the Alaska Republicans who want to return an indicted man?
If Delay truly felt he was not guilty he never would have resigned. Did you hear the news today? Delay's friend Abramoff is being touted as being a real good guy for spilling his guts. The feds want his federal sentence to be short. I wonder what Abramoff said about Delay? Was Abramoff on that golf trip to Scotland with Delay?
You lost me there with Marion Barry. If Stephens was caught on video tape smoking crack like Barry was, I doubt that he would be getting much love right now either.

OK, you got a mayor tooting with a tootsie and a senator selling his state to the special interests. Which one would effect your life the most?
Well most politicians are selling their state/district out to special interest groups one way or the other. However, it really sticks in peoples minds when a politician is selling out their district AND gets caught with the pipe in his mouth. Sorry, no love.....
