Illegal Immigrants Returning to Mexico

DALLAS"” Illegal immigrants are returning home to Mexico in numbers not seen for decades "” and the Mexican government may have to deal with a crush on its social services and lower wages once the immigrants arrive.[/b]

The Mexican Consulate's office in Dallas is seeing increasing numbers of Mexican nationals requesting paperwork to go home for good, especially parents who want to know what documentation they'll need to enroll their children in Mexican schools.

Some say illegal immigrants are leaving because a soft economy has led to fewer jobs, causing many laborers to seek work elsewhere.

Others argue that a tough stance on immigration through law enforcement has spread fear throughout the illegal population.

well are times that tough or is it walmart opening new stores in mexico????

Who cares as long as they go home? If they enter legally I'll be the first to welcome them, if not...

Excellent news!

If this is indeed of the magnitude suggested by this report, I think it will be interesting if some areas are able to get a good handle on the costs of illegal immigrants in social services -- schools, hospitals, law enforcement. For example, suppose some school district finds that it goes from habitually underfunded, holding on by the skin of its financial teeth to comfortably adequate funding merely as a consequence of a diminishment of illegals in the system? Same thoughts for hospitals. Supposing that happened, it could provide some serious fodder for the arguments for stricter enforcement.

From my own viewpoint, I can't see how this would not be the case. The general idea is that illegals may often work for cash and don't pay taxes. Even if they pay taxes -- for example using bogus social security numbers -- their rates of pay may not be sufficient to carry the load for the cost of social services they consume. I acknowledge that the data may not be out there to support this conclusion, so this may be a load of nonsense -- but it seems plausible to me.

At the basic level, however, to me "illegal immigrant" says all that needs to be said. We should follow our laws. If our laws are in error, let's change the laws rather than just disregard the laws.

It is pointless to have laws if they are not for everyone. Hopefully this trend continues so that we catch up on our costs.

I love this quote. It paints America as the bad guy for enforcing our laws, instead of placing blame on the illegal act that brought the problem on in the first place. I guess next, we need to cry our hearts out for a bank robbers family because he got caught and went to jail. Or better yet, we need to empty the prisons that hold any man/women who is a parent. Same principal.
