I've preached this concept for years. Its win-win-win with few problems.

and how much will the 17,000 employees save in fuel costs? Auto costs? How much time spent with family will be gained? How much happier will people be working a full day less per week ?

I'm a STRONG advocate of 10 hour days. I absolutely think its the #1 thing with my job - well, maybe #2 right behind the money.

I love my 4/10's but:

For me, I don't safe anything because I rarely stay home on my day off, so my fuel cost/auto cost is probably higher. More time with family, not unless your family members also work the same 4/10's, or you have kids at home.
I am happier having a 3 day weekend every week, BUT it's not saving me any money, especially during hunting season, and my wife works more like 5/10's, so we don't get any moer time together because of my 4/10's.
At the place I work, we are part staffed on Monday and Fridays, and full staffed Tues.-Thur. Works well here.

if not a 4 day work week, how about adding 1 day to the week.....so 8day week, 5 days on, 3days off.

Also can we get rid of daylight savings already? its beyond stupid!

Im already working 6 10-12 hr days a week.Id have to cut back to 5 14 hr days I suppose

But seriously, it does make sense if your in a line of work where you can swing 4 10s for everyone involved and not lose any production as a result.

Two things I hate, daylight savings time and the delegate/superdelegate system of voting. What happened to a simple majority vote for a candidate winning. I don't need somebody representing me for a vote.

I'm with petasux, exempt means 5 - 6 10 hour days. I have worked the 4/10 schedule & it was ok - the extra 2 hours were a pain however the extra day off was sweet - though I usually ended up getting overtime on that day anyway...
