Mexican Bus Had Illegal Tire

The Mexican charter bus that crashed near Sherman, TX killed 14 passengers. Cause of the crash wasthe blowout of an illegalre-capped tire on the front of the bus.

The law that says no re-tread tires on the front axle of buses.

The big no-no was that the drive had an expired medical card. A CDL is useless without a medical card.

My man, who has a CDL, tells me that it is illegal to drive without an up to date medical card. But that wouldn't cause an accident of course.

He says it's not legal to put recaps on the steering axle of commercial vehicles. Those pieces of big tire tread that you see on the roads are recap treads that have come off, usually, the trailer tires. If a tire blows on the steering axle, he says it's almost impossible to control it.

I'm sure it was the blow out that caused the accident, but driving a commerical vehicle without a medical card is a huge no-no.

I'm sure it was the blow out that caused the accident, but driving a commerical vehicle without a medical card is a huge no-no.

Maybe it's just me, but, I would think that running a bus full of folks at highway speeds, on illegal retreads, that actually blow out and cause the death of 15 people, would be a bigger "no-no."
