Knowing some of Cpt. Porter's family and friends and hearing how they describe him, it sounds like it would be out of character for him to spread lies and rumors like that. He was apparently pressured pretty hard by the military after the email got out. And it was, after all, intended just for his family.
On the other hand, the military denies what he said and no one else has backed it up, even anonymously.
I do like how the Snopes article listed it as false even before the retraction simply because Obama's campaign said it wasn't true. Of course we all know Snopes is an unbiased source of information.
Think about how fast that stupid email spread. Now imagine if we could get people forwarding FACTS, like what Obama proposes to do with the capital gains tax, just as quickly.
