Just proves the point I made on the other threads. What is really the important thing here--protecting children, ordoing something about a type ofdog? Let's see.....at least three posts recently about a certain type of dog and a child. Guess these two kids (two threads are about the same kid) are the only two that have been injured or killed recently?
IMO it's plain sad for someone to use the tragic death or injury of a child for nothing more than to push apersonalagenda, and/or as an "I told you so".

I am no lover of this breed, but here are some facts to go with this thread, I also read and can't find the data that Goldens and Labs are real high on the list of dog bites. I have always had a dog in my life except when I was on a ship. I never owned a breed or type that was known for agression so I don't understand that mentality. I guess some think it is cool , some think they are safe by owning and i don't know what else. I do know that all my dogs have been friendly after a person or persons ewas introduced to them, they were all territoria;l and would get excited by kids playing or deliberate attacks by mean kids and people. (yes it happens) Doga are animals, not family members! Some are good and some are bad! You can't pick your inlaws, but you can pick your pet, do so w/their welfare in mind. Tie em' up and they will get mean. Males are territorial and yes, all will try and [protect turf andf and pack they live with (you).
Sorry about the rant, it's just that people are stupid and use no sense when training or working w/ the dog. They are dogs, not people and they have dog sense, that is why we walk upright although I think sometimes some people are upright but cranial growth was suspended in that breed!
Statistics are also flawed as to naming pit bulls as the instigators. It appears that in many
cases in which pit-bull-type dogs are blamed for fatal attacks, the dogs were few of the
recognized pit bull breeds. Glen Bui, vice president of the American Canine Foundation,
using statistics on the American pit bull terrier from the AKC, A.D.B.A. and UKC and
for the other breeds, AKC/UK statistics, found:
Numbers registered No. of Fatal Attacks Breed Percentage
240,000 12 Chow Chow .705%
800,000 67 German Shepherds .008375%
960,000 70 Rottweiler .00729%
128,000 18 Great Dane .01416 %
114,000 14 Doberman .012288%
72,000 10 St. Bernard .0139%
5,000,000 60 American Pit Bull .0012%
Only registered dogs were included. In this finding, the number of the breed is expressed
first, then the number of fatal attacks by the breed and the percentage of dogs in that
breed who administered the fatal attack. Even though Mr. Bui does not say that the
statistics are for particular years, it appears that it is in the reportable period in which he
could get statistics

Wonder why any reasonable person (and especially those with young children) would ever own a pit bull??
Now, I can understand if a stray shows up at your house and acts gentle and your family falls in love with it and decides to keep it, but why would you purposely go out and look for a pit bull to own???
Because they make great pets???
Because you feel you or your property need protection????
Because you like the way those dogs look???
Doesn't make sense to me knowing what they're capable of and bred to do.

I'm not sure of your point. Is there an agenda? I suppose there is, at least as far as I'm concerned. In this particular occurrence, it was the family dog. We all risk death or injury just driving to the grocery store. But this is not a necessary risk. We have two dogs. (Labs) But a dog is not a necessity. And there are many choices of breeds if one decides to own one.
There are practical solutions.
1- Ban the breed completely. If one wants a household pet, there are many, many breeds from which to choose. (This dog was a household pet. The kid was probably fond of the dog. But now he has to go the rest of his life missing an arm because his parents were so abominably and inexcusably irresponsible to bring that breed of dog into their home.)
2- Hold the dog owners criminally responsible. Charge the dog's owner(s) with murder or attempted murder just as though they had committed the act themselves.

I have seen sites where they showed dogs that they said were not really pitbulls. However, I then went on one of the sites devoted to "pit bull rescue" and theyhad plenty of pictures of dogs identified as pit bulls thatwere identical to the dogs that elsewhere they said were not PB's. Hard to get a straight story. I just know that every time I have seen an actual picture of a dog blamed for a pit bull attack, they all pretty much looked alike. If it walks like a duck, etc......
Not sure how many bubbas and boys in the hood are registering their PBs anyway.

You actually think dog fighters would keep a dog that bit them?
don't be naive there young'un
Dogfighters would keep any dog that was a winner regardless of how he acted toward them. Probably use catch poles and keep him in a cage the size of a shoebox if they wanted to...duh.

Go look it up yourself. Bull, if it was Michael Vick, he'd hang that dog so fast your head would spin.
