Presumptive Democrat nominee Barak Obama had an opportunity to visit wounded US troops at Landstuhl in Germany, but chose not to do so.
He first said the visiting the troops would be disrespectful. That did not fly.
His campaign then said that the pentagon would not allow him to visit. That did not fly, because pentagon officials advised that Obama was welcome to visit - but he could not take his campaign staff & media entourage in with him. Obama could have visited the troops in his official capacity as a US Senator, but he (or someone not very bright on his campaign staff) made a choice to not visit.
Being somewhat versed in political campaigns, I know the details of things like this are usually handled by staff. Regardless of who made the blunders, Obama is the candidate. Not only did the campaign first make a dumb remark that the visit would not be respectful, after that the campaign told an untruth, trying to pass the blame onto the military officials at the pentagon. Thankfully, the pentagon officials set the record straight. Obama, his campaign, made a huge blunder by not visiting and made it worse by erroneously foisting blame on pentagon officals.
Think about what might have been. Obama could have visited the wounded troops as a Senator. The fawning media who are with him would have made sure that story came out & out big. Obama could have said something along the lines that "while it's a rule to not have media on such visits, it's also the right thing to do to show respect to our brave, wounded fighting men & women." Obama desparately needs blue collar & military affiliated voters, & this could have helped him immensely with these voters. However, his campaign really screwed up big-time.

And that's a good thing. It shows the caliber of the slime running his campaign (they are a reflection of
their boss, IMO). I remember when the 'good' people of New York City elected David Dinkins as the first black mayor of NYC. He was a disaster (high taxes, crime thru the roof) for the city. Two defining moments of the Dinkins admin were:
1: the rerouting of airline approach routes so they did not fly over Forest Hills where the U.S. Open Tennis
tournament was being held (he was a fan of tennis, you see).
2: When given to choice to visit with a NYC Police Officer wounded in the line of duty or prisoners on
the Riker's Island prison facility, the prisoners won hands down.
Look for a repeat performance from Obama, except on a national scale .....

RE: Obama Refuses to Visit Wounded Troops
Nothing in a visit to the vets for him. He knows that McCain has a lock on that front and doesn't want to waste time campaigning for something he can't win.

No doubt Obama would be a sorry a$$ed Commander In Chief: But we do need to be fair. Obama has visited WRGH at least three times, the last visit was on 27 June, 08.
McCain would also be a very sorry CIC. Read about McCain's WRGH photo op.

My goodness falcon, you have resorted to reading BLOGs. Rather lame don't you think? I have visited WR several times, doesn't mean a think. Most people in my area have if you know any military personel, its fairly common.
The blog was written by a wounded soldier and that should stand for something. Neither McCain nor Obama give a damn about the troops, wounded or not. Both of the scumbags would use the military for political gain and then discard the troops like used condoms.

How are you so enlighened on this? Do you know either personally? You are full of it.
I don't care for bama, but I won't say if he cares for troops or not. I don't know if he does or not. Only a fool would try to say they do know.
Ok, prove me wrong. Show me how you know all this. How you are enlightened. Falcon in his normal posting BS and run mode.
I have a hard time believing that madmac served in Nam, stayed where he did in Vietnam prison, seen the horrors of war, torture, and deaths of his friends, doesn't feel compassion for troops. Its beyond me how anyone could go thru that and not care. One trip down to WR to meet soldiers and it can change people's compassion for the troops.
My old VP, was a Colonel. Another person on our board of directors isa an ex-general. They both will tell you, when asked, in military leadership, you cannot view ever man that dies and grieve for every one of them. Or focus on a soldier who lost a limb. He said it will drive one crazy and possibly cause more deaths. They said its the burden of leadership, which sucks most of the time. This sounds logical.
