U.S. exports to Iran grew more than tenfold during President Bush's years in office even as he accused it of nuclear ambitions and sponsoring terrorists.
America sent more cigarettes to Iran -- at least $158 million worth under Bush -- than any other product.
Other surprising shipments during the Bush administration: brassieres, bull semen, fur clothing, sculptures, perfume, musical instruments and military apparel.
Top states shipping goods to Iran include California, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio and Wisconsin, according to an analysis by The Associated Press of seven years of U.S. government trade data.
Sanctions are intended in part to frustrate Iran's efforts to build its military, but the U.S. government's own figures showed at least $148,000 worth of unspecified weapons and other military gear were exported from the United States to Iran during Bush's time in office. That included $106,635 in military rifles and $8,760 in rifle parts and accessories shipped in 2004.

.....business is business I suppose.
Personally, I don't object to the shipment of cigarettes to Iran....let's keep 'em going over there.
Bull semen I can only presume is to assist in the development of a beef industry over there...more
cholesterol in beef than goats chickens and sheep....keep it 'coming' (sorry...!)
Militarily speaking, $148,000 in weaponry may seem a lot to ordinary Joes like us, but for Iran's
million man army, that translates to roughly 15cents a man. Hardly anything to worry about in the
small-arms category, and for major weaponry, well, that's in the millions so again, $148k is not something
that would ever make a difference.
The rest of the stuff is WESTERN merchandise; statues (likenesses ! BAD !),
bras for those Iranian ta-ta's keeps 'em outta the dirt...they're welcome to 'em. Fact is, the more
western goods make it Iran, the more their islamic fundamentalist culture erodes, another good thing
for us, generally.
Lastly, I don't know the particulars about any Iranian sanctions, but this is private industry seeking overseas markets and finding dollars in Iran. Not my first choice, I'll admit but what's Bush got to do with the American Beef Council shipping bovine baby batter to the Iranians....?

Excellent point.
I just don't see this as even being called 'aid' or anything. Cripes...how much does an Abrams tank cost ?
I could see if we sent them 10 million land mines and $400 each...that starts to translate into some serious change. $148K ? I'm wondering what kind of rusted out, pitted junk they sent to the iranians....I hope the worst of the worst, actually.....

RE: U.S. exports cigarettes, bras, bull semen to Iran
148k worth of supplies wont do anything the nine missles they just fired were probably worth 4-5 million a piece.... we probably sent them old M16's that will jam due to sand...
