U.S. agent fires weapon in struggle with 3 suspects in Vermont border town

A male and female suspect were taken into custody. The third person fled into Canada. Neither person in custody was wounded. Agents don't know if the suspect who fled into Canada was hit.


Henry said he couldn't release the names of those in custody and didn't know their nationalities.


Derby Line is a series of residential streets and buildings that straddle the border.


In October, the RCMP arrested more than 40 people trying to enter Canada illegally through Derby Line.

In August, a Border Patrol agent in Alburgh, Vt., fired his weapon at a car that had illegally entered the United States after the driver tried to run him over. There have been no arrests in that case.

One would think that this border town would have a few more agents around to see what's up, no ?

Border patrol is pretty lame. A couple of years ago 4 of us went on a hunting trip to NewFoundland and took an 8' covered trailer. We didn't get checked going into Canada and we had to process the guns but they didn't even look at them. On the way out of Canadaup in Maine we hit a major crossing that was coveredby a coven of dyke patrol officers. They were too busy flirting with each other to even look in our truck or trailer. Lanse they were pretty doggy but you would have probably wanted to convert them...all at once.

I crossed in and out of Quebec from upstate New York a few years ago. It was my first time going by car since 9/11. I really thought that i would get run thru the ringer. The Candian agent gave me a good quick onceover, but on the U.S. side i could have been smoking a joint and they would have still waved me thru.
