Default Just figured you should know...

http://www.parentdish.com/2008/07/07/dogs-breeds-to-be-wary-of/

When you think of dangerous dog breeds, which animal do you picture: a pit bull or a wiener dog?
According to the results of research published in Applied Animal Behaviour Science[/i], the breed most prone to aggression is the dachshund. New research that involved questioning 6,000 dog owners, found that one in five dachshunds have bitten (or tried to bite) strangers, a similar number have attacked other dogs, and that one in 12 have even snapped at their owners.
Prior research on dog aggression focused solely on dog bite statistics. Using that data, breeds like Pit Bulls, Rottweilers, and Dobermans were thought to pose the most danger. Researchers now feel prior studies were not painting a full picture, as most dog bites (especially those of smaller dogs) go unreported and were not included in the past.
Chihuahuas ranked second on the list of aggressive dogs, while Jack Russell Terriers came in third.
Just like with people, it's not fair to stereotype an entire group based on the actions of a few. But it's also good know some small dogs might not be the ideal choice for children.

Friend of mine's cousin was attacked by a chihuahua and the little creature tore his ear off while he was on the couch watching tv. Thing was psycho.

I think the major issue is the damage they will do once they do get aggressive. Lots of people get nipped by yip-yip dogs, but not many end up in plastic surgery because of it.

Very true, and a valid observation. However a dachshund can do quite a bit of damage to an infant. I have a mini that ripped my father's hand open when he was just trying to climb into bed.

My main point, is that there seem to be quite a few here who assume pit bulls are the ONLY dogs that bite or have ever bitten or ever will bite.

Oh, i know that all sorts of dogs can be aggressive. My dad has a beagle that is pretty ill-tempered.
But if an aggressivedog is gonna get out of the neighbors house and make a beeline for Lanse Jr., i can only hope that it is chihuahua or beagle instead of a pit. I think that most other people would too.

no one assumes pits are the most agressive tpye dogs

what seems to be oblivious to pro-pit people is that the #1 mauling, serious injury type dogs ARE the pit bull type canines

FACT

let the little dachsund type dogs nip all it wants to, it will NEVER surplant pit bull type dogs are the killers/maulers/serious injury canine leader

As a letter carrier I can agree w/all three of them choices. All three breeds are hyper. I've never been bitten yet but I've had to kick a few of them little dogs...........not hard though.................

I don't recall anyone saying that. There may be quite a few here who assume that when and if a pit bull bites, it's going to do a lot more damage than when and if a chihuahua bites...

Is there such a thing as a Pit Bull/Chihuahua Mix?

Wow, you still have it? The dog would have been dead and flying down the hallway if that had been me.
