Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Bio Fuels

If a Bio Fuel is developed from a non-edible plant species I think it is plausible and should be pursued. Anything that is based on Corn,Soybeans etc or other food staples isjust asking for major trouble. Why is there such a big push for this and who is doing the pushing?

Why would it make a difference if the plant is edible or not edible? A non-edible plant would likely take up just as much farmland and labor as an edible plant.

Yes but corn grows best in the "corn states" and currently is at its highest prices because of biofuel and now the flooding.ADM probably wishes all corn was used for biofuels but there are better alternatives that can be grown anywhere and with less maintenance. Here is one perfect substitute.

If there is a plant that will produce, at competitive costs, biofuels, and will grow in areas not currently cultivated, I'm sure the folks who own that land will jump on it.

It seems the Jetropha is labor intensive for the yield.

Why not just use all the oil and coal that we currently have, and then in about 200+ years we can worry about alternatives...

A guy from our area, produces fuel from the waste produced from butchering chickens. He has a bio fuel plant that get's it resources all most free from places like Purdue's slaughter houses.

Yes but I don't and neither does anyone else I know. Why not? Because Purdue doesn't produce anywhere near enough to supply us all. This is not different than people scarfing up used frier oil. As soon as the demand for used frier oil gets high enough, these guys will have to start paying for it.

Dear God please save me from these people proposing all these outlandish energy sources. Yes you can get some energy from wind and solar sources. Of course there's no wind here right now. There was some for a little while yesterday though. And the sun just came out. Oops sorry, back behind the clouds again.

Cr422, If a guy can do that on his own, and knowing what this country was able to do(when we had factories here) you're telling me that we can figure out way's to make bio fuels?

How many billions of chickes and other animals are sluaghtered every year? So how much could be produced?

Dear whatever please save me from these people that won't think out of the box, if we had listened to them through out our history we would have never have become the great nation we are.

Just imagine if people like Bill Gates, Henry Ford etc had listened to the nay sayers.

How long ago was it that a computer with the capabilities of the one s we are using would have taken up an entire room. I can get about any piece of information I want from a search engine that 15 years ago was un heard of etc.
