Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Okay, I am a little concerned

Does anyone remember United States Steel?
Republic Steel?
Bethlehem Steel?

Does anyone remember when General Motors was the largest manufacturer in the world?

When Sears was the largest retailer in the world and would sell you guns and ammo by mail?

How about TWA? Pan Am?

Now 80% of the stuff sold in Walmart (Walmart?) is made in China. (China?)

But that's not all. A Belgian company that most of us have never heard of has set out to buy Anheuser/Busch. Sacrilege!

Arrogant Yuppies are moving to the most remote areas of our great nation and promoting zoning ordinances and the serving of vegetables in school cafeterias.

Where is it all going to end?

I don't think I can take anymore but I don't know where to hide.

Yep, the dastardly unions did it: 14% of the US workforce destroyed paradise.

Do not worry at all. The market will work itself out. Never mind that you may not have a job.

Let me get this straight, you don't seem to mind police and CPS working together to violate citizens 4th Amendment rights, but you are concerned about K-Mart buying Sears and not selling guns? That's some pretty thick irony right there.

I'm just teasing you, I wish Sears would still be the store it was 35 years ago. My dad still has a JC Higgins 20-12 pump shotgun that he won't part with, even though I have offered well above market value for it.[:'(] I still fish with a big spool Ted Williams baitcasting reel. They don't carry anything like that anymore.

The regulations or the people who vote the regulationists into office? The unions or the union members?

Why is it that Toyota and Honda and soon to be Kia and Hyundaiare going to have more plants in the US producing Cars and Trucks for the US Market then our "own" companies and don't have Unions and their production is of higher quality then any GM,Ford or Chrysler? Yes GM and Ford have plants in Canada and mexico and Brazil as well that supply us with cars and parts When has government regulationever worked effectively?

Well, I'm a laid-off steelworker (J&L) so I guess I can comment on the picture. As to steel, we bombed out the mills in ***an and Germany. Then, after WWII, new mills in those countries plus Korea beat the pants off our old factories in the US. It's called being nimble. The last gasp by my mill was importing ***anese technology to run a continuous caster. Now the place is owned by an Indian company, Mittel.

Does anyone know how much corn flakes the US exports? Or that most of the chopsticks used in ***an are imported from the US? Or that we export special-use sand to the Middle East? All strange but true.

US-made autos just could not compete. Let's invest more in R&D instead of pointing fingers and trying to blame 'the usual suspects'.

Every post I read I find myself fighting the urge to point at the thread I started "Food for economic thought..." It even talks about the steel industry.

All you free market only people out there, it's just the free market at work. It's not unions or regulation, it's the WTO and "free trade".

Sorry not even close. However, seeing how you would rather live in Chili under their government, I'm willing to pay for your one way first class ticket providing you promise not to return.

Guys don't worry about a thing ..Obama promised to get rid of Nafta(but his spokesman told the Canuck it was just grandstanding) Pelosi will make sure more Veggies and Tofu are served in the Congressional cafeteria and that more of your tax dollars will be used in flying her ass back and forth between San Fran and DC. They will make sure that no free trade agreement is enforced and they will ensure that oil companywindfall taxes will be collected thereby driving the last industry from the US. For the private citizens we might as well get a 55 gal drum of KY because the fist pumper is going to give it to us good.
