Default 5 Yr. Old TX Boy Killed By Pit Bull

Another TX kid has been killed by a pit bull. Child welfare folks put that kid in a home with pit bulls.

Thu Jun 19, 7:30 AM ET

WESLACO, Texas - A pit bull fatally mauled a 5-year-old boy staying at a southern Texas home with relatives, authorities said.

The boy was pronounced dead at the scene Wednesday. Hidalgo County Justice of the Peace Rosa Trevino said the condition of the child's body suggested there was no way emergency responders could have saved his life.

Trevino declined to identify the boy pending notification of his mother, who lives in Washington state. The boy's father lives in Mexico.
The sheriff said the boy had been living in the house north of Weslaco with his aunt and uncle after Child Protective Services placed him with them.

Luis Palomo, 20, said he was down the street playing football with friends when the trouble began. He said the victim was at home with a baby sitter when one of two pit bulls at the house began running around the front yard, getting a second pit bull inside the home riled up.

Palomo said the baby sitter and boy were inside the house with the second dog and were scared, so he tried to intervene. While he managed to distract the dogs temporarily, the boy wandered out the back door. One of the dogs grabbed the boy by the torso and dragged him, locking its jaws around the boy's neck, Palomo said.

I have some serious doubts about the agenda ofTexas Child ProtectiveServices or Social Services or whatever you want to call them

Ah............ Gotta call you on that. I have two one full blooded andone half. I also used to have one as a kid.
Acted like a normal house pet, good watch dog, I got a 1yr old myself, they are gentle as can be around him

However they can be made mean through abuse, and training. They are not just born that way.

If they are bred correctly and treated humanely by their owners no problem. The Presa Male can reach 150 lbs and has a similiar mentality. I used to own Rotties and think they are great dogs but pretty much everyone I knew was terrified of them.

Maybe I'm wrong but how could someone take a chance with their kids around a dog like this that has such a bad reputation? I just don't understand the thinking here.

How sad, how very sad!!!

The dogs in question behavior could have been fine until that point and never bothered anyone or given any indication of that or the people had serious judgment issues.Remember the kid was placed there by social services ....DIdn't they investigate the environment and family before doing so? I am not surprised by this I remember when I lived in Fl that social services lost track of almost 100 kids and didn't know where they were placed. It's SAD but don't blame it all on the dog although if they are mean they don't need to be around adults nevermind 5 year old kids. Half of the equation is how they(the dog are raised) . I used to go to an archery shop in Florida and the owner had a few and they liked to sleep by the front door..one had to step over one or 2 to get to the counter. The first time it was rather exhilarating but they were good dogs, Others I have seen just needed to be killed outright(Sorry Peta lovers).

Ridiculous.......

I'm not sure pit bulls are ticking time bombs, I don't own one, but if I did I would be responsible for it....and wouldn't have small children around it, certainly not left alone with it....

Also wild animals are legal in this country....venomous snakes for instance...no person should be allowed to own these things.....they may be cool and all, but c'mon, stupid.

Also in florida now...the exotic pet capital of the world...has a wild population of exotic snakes in the everglades they claim....pythons etc....

Get a regular pet if you want one, dog, cat, fish, no tigers, venoumous snakes, or even snakes.....reptiles show no emotion? who wants to own one? I think its those goth kids from hs.....get a friend or a dog....

I haven't known one pit bull owner that didn't have an attitude.. like the little man syndrome, or some sort of deficiency. Now, I'm not saying that all have a problem, just the ones I know.
