You know what you need Old Elk? You need the dog on the right. And I would pay you to take him. What a deal!!!
I like those germanic dogs BC..what is his problem ? Looks real playful.

Thats his problem. See what he is doing in that picture. That goes non-stop.Play time 24/7.So you got his buddy there beside him who is old and little aggresive (and I dearly love) and doens't mess around, and the little one aggitates him until he attacks the other one. 400 dollars later at the vet to getholes sewed up.

He's a good dog. He's actually my wifes, and the older one is mine, but with the newborn, I just can't spend any time with them.

We downsized our house a few years back went from a huge back yard to a small back yard. I would take him off your hands for sure if I had room for him. I might have to upsize my yard(buy another house yuk) again because I plan on buying a wirehaired pointer for when I semi-retire and one or 2guard dogs. My brother has 2 Jet Black Shepherds at home I think he calls them CHeckoslovakian Border Patrol dogs..these mothers are frightening. I am not afraid of any dog except maybe a pack of Timberwolves but these are something else.

One thing for sure, I feel much safer with the dogs. I was mostly kidding about giving away the dog. My wife would not go for it anyway. We discuss it, and she starts balling. But honestly, if she wants to have another child, we have no business with two 110lb dobes and two babies.

I had 2 Rotties and a golden retriever when my son was born. The Male Rottweiler would not let anyone within 10 feet of my son and my son rode him around like a horse ...it was pretty funny ...stuck his hand down his throat and all kinds of things toddlers do and the dog just loved him. It was a bad day for all of us when that Dog finally died

Oh, I am not saying I worry about them together. Just the little guy needs exercise and attention that I can't give him. Also, we travel a lot and 300 dollars for5 days of kennel fees can get expensive.

I like rotts too. Just not sure about thier coat as compared to dobes.

We have a cat and dog(wire haired dachshund)and I know where you are coming from with the boarding fees....I grimace every time the vet calls on the cell when we are on vacation.....Cha CHing. Our 2 Rotties as well as the Goldenhad a heck of a time in florida with fleas...I am suprised I didn't posion them as much insecticide as I put on them in shampoos, dips and every other kind of remedy. The male Rottie and Golden did much better here and when we started using the once a month stuff it was not around when we originally bought all the dogs..

bc,

You say your older dog gets agitated and can be aggressive and you have a new baby in the house. Ever have any second thoughts about the dog??

Never. He just doesn't like things to move by him fast or run from him or strangers. Baby is upstairs, and dogs are downstairs. They are never together. He probably only has a good 2 years left in him if that. I don't blame him for slamming the younger dobe. The younger one will bite at him and run around him for 3 hours straight when all he wants to do is sleep. I would bite a chunk out of him too.

Don't get me wrong, when the baby is old enough to walk and run, they will be separated. They are animals.

You seen to be implying because you haven't seen orexperienced it, it can't be true? Oh well......no sense in wasting time trying to change your mind if that's the case.

Another breed was mentioned that brought on a thought--as best I can recall, the most trouble I've heard of in my area as far as folks getting bitten, livestock being mauled/killed, and other animals being killed was due to chow-chows. They have very powerful jaws and go for the throat too--never saw even one story in the newsabout them though. My bet is every instance would have made the news if the exact same thing had been done by a pit bull.

We've also lost livestock and neighbors were threatened a year or two ago by a couple of mixed lab mutts that ran wild for a while--not a newsmaker there either, and for the same reason. Several years back there was a pack of wild dogs led by a german shepard that was causing a lot of trouble.

Reckon why we never see a story about any other breed? Shoot, I've had trouble with dobermans, german shepards, rottweillers, etc.--those are bred to be aggressive also, and have been known to "go off". I think it's simple--they aren't pit bulls.

Seems to me that some folks look at pit bulls like HCI looks at firearms.

Just so folks know, I don't own a pit bull, never have owned one, and don't intend to own one.

Chad
thanks for posting this Chad....i feel lots the same...ive posted before on threads like this and i dug it up here it is, its exactly how i feel. posted a year and a half ago.

its too bad you dont here about all the otherdog breeds that bite people every day on the news....But when its a pitbull it gets national attention.....i understand that somedogs have temperment problems but dogs are individuals and have their own personality traits, its not the breeds fault....and it doesnt help that there jaws are very powerfull(probably the some of the most powerfull of all domestic dogs.)
somedog owners dont train their dogs they just let them be wild...
its not the dogs fault its the owners. Ifa dog has a horrible temperment and just wont Submit to training(wich is Rare) it needs to be put down.
no BIg dogshould be untrained...infact it should be mandatory, due to the power that they have.

a traineddog is usually a happydog because its adog that you can do things with and take places without worrying. properlytrained dogs dont "just"bite ...and thats a fact.

im gonna ad that its always sad when a dog attacks and kills or injures a person...
i think training for Large dogs should be mandatory. the problem is how do you go about doing it????....maybee, every year they should have to pass a test...at the owners expense,i think it would make people understand not to take dogs for granted and be responsible dog owners.

....not that i like the idea that much but i think it would stop alot of "dead Beat" dog owners from getting/keeping problemdogs.

there is no excuse for a untrained, unsocialized dog....chances are that dog is miserable, and thats why he bites/attacks.

you can work with a dog for 30 minutes a day...for a few months and have him completely trained and jumping throu hoops or whatever you want....for his master

once you get a dog to understand that hes supposed to pay attention to you, they are very easy to train....from there on out. all you have to do is spendthe time with him(pay attention to him)and his behavior will become automatic, he can be taught to do whatever you want from him.

the thing with problem dogs is that their owners dont pay attention to them so they dont pay attention to thier owners....
