Enemy is now Citizen. Gitmo prisoners afforded American rights.
Just heard this morning that prisoners at Gitmo are afforded American civil rights and will be tried as such. It passed with a vote of 5 to 4. Doesn't sound like a bad idea, but think of what that does to our military. Now when we go to war, the enemy will be afforded American Civil rights, which will mean we have to fight as if we were fighting ourselves. Oh what a great day this is. I feel sorry for our troops trying to do a very tough job and now we are adding this extra pressure. And before yall say, "its only at Gitmo". Think again. If we afford these captives American rights, the next time we capture anyone on the battle field, they will have to be afforded the very same rights. And if they are not, the law suits will come flying from every ambulance chasing lawyer this country has to offer. And since we are putting the screws on our interrogators, I guess that would mean our troops are going to need to just kill everyone and take no prisoners...... Oh yea, they have started putting out troops on trial for killing the enemy. What a great way to gut America. We are bending over for every country but out own.

There is no extra pressure on the troops. They will continue to do exactly what they have been doing. The problem is well above the level of the troops.
From the beginning these "detainees" were not treated as prisoners of war like they were in every other war. If they had beendeclared POWs they could have been detained until the wars in Iraq and Afghanistanwere over with no access to US courts. They could have been courts-martialed for terrorist acts and sentenced to US prisons. The U/S had no problem executing enemywho did terrorist acts in WWII.

WASHINGTON - The Supreme Court ruled Thursday that foreign terrorism suspects held at Guantanamo Bay have rights under the Constitution to challenge their detention in U.S. civilian courts.
In its third rebuke of the Bush administration's treatment of prisoners, the court ruled 5-4 that the government is violating the rights of prisoners being held indefinitely and without charges at the U.S. naval base in Cuba. The court's liberal justices were in the majority.
Justice Anthony Kennedy, writing for the court, said, "The laws and Constitution are designed to survive, and remain in force, in extraordinary times."
Kennedy said federal judges could ultimately order some detainees to be released, but that such orders would depend on security concerns and other circumstances.

take no prisoners..... will fix that problem. I understand our troops are expert marksmen. All the enemy KIA were shot between the eyes with a double tap.

Hell, nowdays they want to court martial troops for shooting injured enemy that still pose a threat. Just think what they would do for killing a prisoner.

Just think, Obama hasn't ruled out as the first priority of his attorney general would be to go back through the Bush Administration in an attempt to put them on trial for war crimes.
