"We are kidding ourselves if we think we can drill our way out of these problems," House Appropriations Committee Chairman David Obey, D-Wis., said during the bill mark-up session.
Mouse, it looks like they estimated 86 offshore and 50 something on land so it it is about 139 billion barrels. I read about this yesterday and it popped up today in the news.
Maybe it'll happen in several more years or sooner. What company is the leader in offshore drilling?[>:] That will give me some generous returns.

RE: No Drilling
Do you actually think that more drilling here will lower the price? There is still more oil in the pipeline than we are using. There is no shortage and prices are still high. It doesn't appear to matter where the drilling is done the price is still climbing. Futures trading is like stock trading. Buy and the price goes up. Everyone all around the world is buying and it hasn't stopped since the price started to climb so it won't fall back until they stop buying and sell. The price doesn't seem to matter.... everyone wants it. What a business.

Perhaps we could take a lesson from Norway. I'm not going to post the article but it was a good read. It's a little long and would require too much cut and paste to get it to post.

If we drill here and only use the oil here, then it should be cheaper since the demand from China and India isn't going to affect it. Maybe anyway...

RE: No Drilling
I think its crazy to let the corps in to our feilds, they have been trying to get in lobbying for years. I think the Gov. should put new Corps, regulated for short contracts in. Then Crime is kept to a minimum. Even if we have to pay for it, it will "then" change the price of gasoline.

Any oilpumpedfrom ANWR or off-shore would goon the world market. This is not going to change.
How could we become energy independent if our oil would still be used around the world?

For 35 years congress and the white house have postured, complained, lied, took money from environmental and oil companies and wussed out totally when it came to an energy policy.Any talk of energy independence by DC politicians is hot air. It is very likely that this country will become more dependent on foreign oil.
Personally I think that oil companies should be nationalized like Saudi did with ARAMCO.
