Barack Obama kicked off his 2-week tour of battleground states today, during which he plans to preach on America's economic woes to voters. It's a good gameplan; the latest polling data shows that 8 out of 10 Americans believe that the nation's economy is poor. Unfortunately, it's a plan that, on day 1 at least, is based more on propoganda than fact. Even more unfortunate, the media won't touch Obama's mistruths, and many Americans don't have the common sense to know the truth between fact and fiction, especially when you package it in the form of a charismatic speech.
In North Carolina this morning, Obama said, "For all his talk of independence, the centerpiece of his economic plan amounts to a full-throated endorsement of George Bush's policies." Yawn. Sounds like something heavy hitter or don128 would say. He went on to say that McCain favors a tax system that favors the wealthy over so-called "ordinary Americans." Taken straight from the talking points at DailyKOS. I LMAO every time I see this assertion. Of course the facts are black and white for anyone with even a partially-functioning brain. Yet you see this nonsense posted here, you see it plastered all over the Democratic rally sites like MoveOn, and now you have a supposedly intelligent presidential candidate furthering it. Of course, what Obama says is true . . . if you consider "ordinary Americans" to be those who are making less than $25,000 per year.
And then the part that really made me laugh: Obama said that McCain, like Bush, favors policies that will increase our deficit. There's no doubt that the Republicans spent money like they had it to burn from 2000 thru 2006. There's also no doubt that the Democrats, who ran on the pretense of ending the nonsensical spending habits in '06, INCREASED spending instead of DECREASING spending in 2007. And Obama, who has proposed billions in aid to Africa, wants to talk about our deficit? LOL. Also ignored by Obama is the fact that if everything remained unchanged, we're projected to have a surplus by like 2010 or 2011. So I guess those Bush policies aren't so terribly bad, after all? Finally, let's talk about a budget deficit, and then let's bring up earmarks. And let's mention that last year, Obama requested more than $300 million in earmarks, while McCain requestion $0 (zero) in earmarks.
Fiscal responsibility? It seems pretty clear who the candidate of choice is. But what do I know? I don't get my news from the Huffington Post.

If he was stuck concentrating on facts, he'd lose all of his "hope" and "change" talking points, and his gaggle would soon disperse...

Just so the DailyKOS crowd doesn't hammer you too hard, you're correct on McCain's number, but, I believe Obama's earmarks were in the $90 to $100 million range. Hillary's earmarks were well over $300 million (I believe almost $400 Mill...).

If you don't get your daily news from Huffington or the DailyKOS, you are obviously some sort of troglodyte... (or at least that's what the fascists on the far left believe).
