The Republicans squealed when a reporter called the veep "J. Danforth Quayle" and that sure as shooting was the name on his driver's license. So why are the conservatives so all-fired cackling about this "Hussein" business? It was his grandfather's name.
Is a Scots-Irish name normal for a president? Where is that written? Or is this just to buttress the Muslim rumors?

I don't know, Obama was on the record as using it first. However it's funny how he gets to limit what we get to discuss and his middle name is hardly a scratch on the surface.

To some world class far out folks the name Husseinconjurs up the vision of Saddam Hussein. Since Obama has Islamic ancestors, it becomes a short leap forsome to accuseObama of supporting terrorists and all kinds of cheap crap. Anal Cyst Limbaugh used to have a little ditty on his show:"Osama, Obama...."

Oh, I don't know. It was conservatives, after all, who championed the useage of Bush's middle name (Dubya).
Seriously, though. Getting hung up on Obama's middle name is a little silly. I don't care what images the use of his middle name conjures up. There are plenty of reasons to key on that explain why Obama would be a terrible president without using those tactics.
I suspect, however, that you're about to tell us that Obama's middle name is another of those many aspects (his personal life, his wife, his acquaintances, etc.) that we shall not speak of. Lucky for us that we have you to keep us straight on what we are and are not allowed to discuss about Obama.

To me, I am just trying to do the guy a favor. Hussien sounds a whole lot better than Barack. Why don't you like it? I mean its his name. He shouldn't be ashamed of it.
Most of us don't even know the middle names of our friends, but some presidents' middle names tend to become common knowledge.
I don't know what Dubya stands for really, but his dad was
George Herbert Walker
Then there was;
William Jefferson,
Richard Milhous,
Dwight David,
Franklin Delano,
There are some missing of course. I think Jimmy was actually James Earl, but Jimmy seemed to suffice.
Barack Hussein is probably not the ideal name for a candidate for the U.S. presidency, but as long as his opponents don't overdo it, it might turn a couple people off.
Would you rather have Hillary Rodham? Yeah, me neither. I don't want either one. If Barack started calling himself Bradley Howard O'Banion, he would still be unacceptable. But watch out. He's gonna get a lot of votes Hussein or no Hussein.

In 21st century American politics slashing, slurring, and smearing is a normal part of the process.
Obama will be smeared by way of his middle name and past associations and McCain will be smeared for his age, his twisted, awkward smile, and clumsy offhand comments...oh yea, and his association with the current president...which may wind up being the most vicious slash to be executed in his direction.

But its all in good fun, of course.
Slashing, slurring, and smearing is nothing new. I've read some samples of political attacks from earlier days and those guys could be really vicious.
