Obama says blacks and Jews have a history of co-operation?
Some history buff help me out here. Obama amazes me with these out of the blue comps. Hemakes uphistory as much as Hillary. Seriously, when did this happen?

I guess it was convenient that he was speaking to a PAC of American-Jews. Just never heard of it before. I know a great deal of whites marched with the blacks, but have never heard it broken down to Jews.
It wasironic that Barack now wants to promote technology and defensefor Israel.When last I heard he wanted to have a no-nuclear middle east which is the only thing keeping Israel the unmilitarily challenged big dog.

You had to have been around for what was known as the 'civil rights period'. Ed Koch marched in civil rights demonstrations in the south, as did a friend of mine who was the only Jewish student in a Vermont college in 1962. Jack Greenberg was a lawyer onthe NAACP Legal Defense Fund.
Like black folks, Jews knew what it was like to be barred from public accommodations, like the famous sign at Arthur Godfrey's place in FL: "No dogs, [n-words] or Jews allowed." When he was making the movie "The Hustler" Paul Newman was denied entry to some clubs in NY to practice pool, only because they did not admit Jews. And when Groucho Marx's daughter was barred from using a pool, he asked if she could go in up to her waist because she was only half Jewish!
Marian Wright Edelman, the noted children's advocate and thefirst black woman admitted to practce law in MS, married a Jewish fellow in the sixties. Alice Walker, who wrote "The Color Purple", married a Jewish fellow in the seventies. Along with the other Jews whohad beenlynched in the south, I'm sure you remember that two of the "Mississippi Burning" victims were Jewish civil rights workers aiding in black voter registration in Mississippi.
You may want to google the famous 'radical chic' party given by Leonard Bernstein in the late sixties. And, the south was incensed when, in the sixties, Jerry Lewis said he was happy on an airplane ride because he had to use the bathroom over Alabama and Mississippi. He was commenting on civil rights. I'm no historian but I remember all of that. Not to mention that where I live a number of black folks are Jewish.
So black folks and Jewish folks have always had solidarity, on some level. And of course the name "Barack" is a variant of the Hebrew word 'baruch' or 'blessed'.

I will agree that a good many well known Jews had lent their names to the civil rights causes over the years, but I got to tell you that the jews I have known might talk a good story, but in real life can be as racist as one can get. It's like "I am all for civil rights and such as long as they don't move into my neighborhood!". Jews are far from the most unbiased people I have ever met. They just want to make you believe they are.

That's a no joker!We have fairly large Jewish and Black communities here, and the concept of them coexisting peacefully is a joke, they despise each other with a passion. This has been my common experience with the two wherever I've traveled, the blacks hated the Jews, and the Jews despised everyone who wasn't Jewish.
One more observation, is it just me, or has Obama flip flopped about as much as Lurch did in the last election?

I'm glad that I am not the only one who has observed this. You are right also about them not liking pretty much anyone who isn't a jew. I am not implying in anyway that the persecution jews suffered throughout history was just, but I will say that they probably did give some people reasons not to exactly like them. So we could leave it at that.
I wouldn't say Obama has been flip flopping. I just think he has pretty much said NOTHING of any relevance up to this point. It's pathetic how this nation seems to be attracted to a nice face and smile, yet substance doesn't seem to be of any interest to them whatsoever! Bush was a sorry excuse for a president in my opinion, but Obama has absolutely nothing that would make me believe that he would be any better. Out of 300 million people in this country we would pick him as our leader? Frightening to say the least!!

I will surprise you Steve, I agree with that statement. I have first hand knowlege within the medical community where jewish doctors would rather loose a few thousand dollars rather then have a black or a foreigner work for them. The area this happens in just might suprise a lot of you on this board.
