Someone I talked to said that their dad has a close friend in the military. The "friend" said that they were gathering a bunch of troops in Iran - more troops than usual. So as a result, the dad believes that we won't have a new president for the upcoming term, due to the fact that the Constitution doesn't allow a change in presidents during a time of war.
Personally, I don't buy it. That would be the stupidest decision possible, for many reasons. Highly ranked individuals in the military do not give out information to civlians, so whoever said this must have been very low in the rankings. Any thoughts? I know this probably sounds really dumb.

Constitution requires congress to declare war just like the war on terrorism declared in 2001 and then again against Iraq, which by the way was covered under the Gulf War Resolution and the war on Terrorism Resolution. Bush just caved into the Dem's demands (for good reason) and allowed them to make good on all their speeches. Now as far as Iran goes, We're not at a war stage by any means, however, Bush does have all the authority he needs to make a move drop a lot of bombs on their facilities.
Your dads friend/whatever has been listening to Air America. He must bethe 1 of 5 still tuning in.

Absolutely we did. What your very confused on is the fact the Constitution doesn't spell out the lanquage stating what they must call it. However, in all circumstances, the use of force was authorized at the president's discression. In the Gulf War, Bush senior was backed up by congress and Sadam violated the surrender agreement. In the war on terrorism voted by congress, GW was authorized to follow the terrorist with all means nescesary. Sadam openly supportted terrorism which made him a terrorist. In the Iraq war, there is no question whether or not war was declared unless your the lepicron from Ohio.

where does it say you can't change presidents during wartime
I'd like to hear that myself.
With his overall approval rating (and other conspicuous reasons), I think Bush would be pushing his threshoold of arrogance (which is already quite high) up a notch to advocate in any way, for another war.
He should just work on his "memoirandos"

It will be interesting to see what happens. One thing is for sure, there will be people sitting the fence, then coming out after any action or inaction and claiming they were all for or against attacking Iran, whichever position is favorable with 20/20 hindsight.

Maybe, just maybe, that's why all war resolutions today don't spell out "We declare war"?
