Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default As gas goes up, driving goes down

Compared with March a year earlier, Americans drove an estimated 4.3 percent less -- that's 11 billion fewer miles, the DOT's Federal Highway Administration said Monday, calling it "the sharpest yearly drop for any month in FHWA history." Records have been kept since 1942.

According to AAA, for the first time since 2002, Americans said they were planning to drive less over the Memorial Day weekend than they did the year before.

Tracy and Adam Crews posted on iReport that their annual Memorial Day weekend has traditionally involved camping and fishing.

"Well, due to the continual rise in gas, we felt our only recourse was to nix the idea this year and stay home" in Jacksonville, Florida, they wrote.

so if we all stop driving any more than necessary the big oil companies will just adjust supply right?

Supply comes from OPEC, we'll see if the reduction in demand makes a difference. We still use roughly the same amount of oil as we did in 1979 - our cars & trucks have become more fuel efficient.

I find myself using less diesel and BBQ'ing at home more. The food tastes better anyway.

Well at some point even China is going to have to decide whether it will continue to subsidize thir gas and keep it artificially low.

I can see your not upset at all with your government. Unfortunately it was your government that started all this crap.

I beg your pardon? I don't think so, the U.S government is as much to blame as the U.K

I am not a fan of my government but I am also not in the mood to discuss who's government is the worst either. Waste of time with politics, you never win.

The U.S started the war, got us involved and all hell has broke loose. Thats the problem. America is hated all over the world and we're just becoming as much as a sought after target too because of this. The middle east will try and make our lives as hard as possible and that includes bumping up the prices of oil.

First, America is not hated all over the world. The French and German Elections proved that not to be true. You read and watch too much of the liberal BBC. Just because the reports slant their stories doesn't make it true.

When I said it was your government that started all this crap, I was talking about the stupid notion of global warming. Margaret Thatcher had different motives but she is the mother of this global warming BS which has lead to the severe restictions in drilling for oil and new supplies.

Do you believe everything your news reporters tell you?

I am not into this global warming BS, I think its all a government ploy to bleed more taxes out of us hard working people. You are speaking of the English government, I won't even go into what I think about them but I can honestly say the Scottish government isn't as bad as them. I know here we're investing in alternative fuels, its progress i'll admit.

I didn't mean to "jump the gun"
