Drew Peterson Charged With Possession Of an "Assault Weapon"
Quote:
Drew Peterson has been charged with possession of an "assault weapon." Peterson's wife went "missing" many months ago and Peterson is a darling of the talk circuit. Maybe he should have kept his mouth shut-after all it is the PRIL.
The gun, a semiautomatic assault rifle, was one of 11 seized during a search of Peterson's suburban Chicago home Nov. 1, shortly after Stacy Peterson disappeared in late October. Authorities say the rifle barrel is too short under Illinois law.
Brodsky said that Peterson, now retired, was still a police officer when the weapon was seized and that officers are exempt from the length provision of the law.
Will County State's Attorney spokesman Chuck Pelkie would not say whether police are exempt from the law, but said the charge against Peterson is valid and appropriate.
"An illegal weapon might be put back on the street and we can't let that happen," Pelkie said.
Illinois State Police Sgt. Thomas Burek denied that the charge was an attempt to harass Peterson.
RE: Drew Peterson Charged With Possession Of an "Assault Weapon"
they said it was 3/8" shy of 16" so why can't we have short rifles but we can own pistols?
I was recently wondering about sawed off shotguns.....like a shotgun pistol for snakes.....more of a whatif, but a shotgun pistol that wasn't a .410 ie something in the 12-20ga range would be nice, and it couldn't be 20" long.
It's crazy. Who needs all these laws... When you can't come up with an answer to a law/rule with common sense I think things have gone too far, when you need a lawbook to define for you what's legal/illegal.

because they were attempting to keep people from toting around a fully automatic weapon under their shirt, but 16 inches is still concealable under your everyday, psycho trench coat. Then, they labled every nasty looking weapon an assault rifle to further encroach on our rights. Why arent semi-auto rifles like the BAR Short Trac, for example, labled assault rifles?

That is funny, my pistols all have rifled barrels, so I guess I'm not going to Illinois. That Glock 26 is WAY shorter than 16 inches.
RE: Drew Peterson Charged With Possession Of an "Assault Weapon"
they do make fully auto pistols/sub machine guns right? isnt that what an oozy is anyway? I'm sure that was a typo, but a fully auto pistol will be less than 16"
we all should be allowed to own fully auto, I've seen some hunters and others who probably shouldn't have been allowed to own a gun, but the rest of us responsible citizens, if we owned a fully auto, aside from going to the range to blast it, we're not going to be holding up banks with it.
isnt a BAR an assault rifle? I thought any semi auto hunting rifle is now.....an "assault rifle"
as to irresponsible.....that 18yo kid who goes out and buys a pistol or rifle simply because he can/its his right and has no training, waves it around at the drop of dime, scares me more than any responsible gun owner/hunter with a fully auto rifle.

Yeah there are and they are banned too but we are talking rifles here.
No, the BAR isnt an assault rifle unless you are refering to the WW2 version. Im not sure if the media would call a semi-auto hunting rifle an assault rifle or not. Probably so
