ABILENE, Texas"” A 7-year-old boy died after he was apparently attacked by two pit bulls along a road, and deputies summoned to the scene had to shoot the dogs before they could reach him, authorities said.[/b]
A driver saw Tanner Joshua Monk lying beside a road near Breckenridge on Sunday with two dogs nearby, Stephens County Sheriff Jim Reeves said. She got out of the car to help him, but the dogs became aggressive so she called 911, he said.
Two sheriff's deputies who came to the scene shot the dogs to death when they also became aggressive toward them. The deputies found that Tanner was dead, Reeves said in Monday's edition of the Abilene Reporter-News.
The two pit bulls, along with two others seized by law enforcement, belonged to a neighbor of the child's family, Reeves said.
Yep, i'm waiting for the pit bull defenders to make excuses for the dogs. [:@]
"It was the second serious pit bull attack on a child in four days in Texas.
On Wednesday in Fort Worth, a woman's two pit bulls attacked her 2-year-old niece as she was preparing to give the child a bath, police said. The little girl was critically injured, and her aunt also was injured as she lay over the child trying to protect her, police said."
There's a lady down the street has 2 pits that are as mean as I have ever seen. One attacked our former mailman and put him in the hospital, and another attacked her when she tried to break up the dogs fighting(stupid) each other in her home. Because of this, the town passed a law requiring pit bull owners to carry extra liability insurance, and the dogs must be kenneled at all times. She still lets her dogs out from time to time to roam the neighborhood. They are a menace.
I bowhunt behind my house, it's only a matter of time...
1.) Ownership of the pit bull breed should be banned. Period.
2.) Any dog owner who knowingly lets their dogs roam free and whose dogs attack someone should be criminally responsible. I'm thinking for voluntary manslaughter.
This whole issue has taken on a whole new meaning for me since my kids have gotten old enough to be outside, and I can't even let them out to play without keeping them within arm's reach because my neighbor's dogs could become aggressive at any moment. It angers me to no end that folks don't have the common courtesy and decency to obey leash laws. I know a couple of high-dollar great pyrenees that are going to be dead if they'll just step into my yard and act aggressive towards my kids one time when I've actually got my gun in my hand.

RE: Again and again.
Tough decision griswold. I had the same situation going on here with as neighbor who had 9 dogs some of which weren't even licensed with the town. I got sick of the excuses after my wife was attacked and bitten by a pack of 5 that was allowed to roam. I contacted my lawyer and sent a letter of warning to them and placed it on file with the town. I told the people that their dogs would be shot if they ever came on my property again and if there was another biting incident I would sue them. The town animal control officer paid them a visit and said they needed to build a substantial fence to keep their dogs legal under the leash laws. I am happy to report that the neighbors have complied and I have been almost a year now without any incidents. If I didn"™t take the action I did I would still be seeing their mutts on my land about once a week. I don"™t agree with your first statement though. It isn"™t the dogs it is the owners who are to blame. Banning a particular breed isn"™t the answer. No pit bulls in my neighbors pack just Beagles, Bassets, American Eskimo"™s and a couple of real mean standard poodles. They all bite because they were allowed to roam in a pack unsupervised and the owners were too stupid to understand the hazards they were placing on their neighbors.

Kill the dogs and throw the owners in jail. Of course, most of the pukes that own these agressive dogs do not have them licensed, so they would just claim that they don't own them. Maybe they were a couple of nice doggies from Michael Vick and Bad Newz Kennelz.

I believe we had an attack here in Houston in the last week or so. One of the TV stations aired some stats showing that Pits consitute some small percentage (I don't remember exactly but in the 3-7% range) of pet dogs, yet are responsible for 50% of "serious" attacks. The numbers don't lie.

RE: Again and again.
That wasnt Abilene, it was Breckinridge. Not far from me. Still very sad. The S.O.B.s who let the dogs run wild need to be brought up on charges. Which they will.
