Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Localism, Sustainability and....Hunting

"Hunters need to push a new public image based on deeper traditions: we are stewards of the land, hunting on ground that we know and love, collecting indigenous, environmentally sustainable food for ourselves and our families."

Thanks wahoo. It was an interesting read. It was a good find. I have one question. If this article has "Localism" in the title and centers around thinking locally, then why even bring this subject up?

limiting oil exploration in our last wilderness strongholds of Alaska
Isn't he saying that local Alaskans control the say so of drilling in their local community? He says we should limit oil exploration. What exactly does that mean to him? No drilling period or did he supportANWR drilling? ANWR was limited oil exploration. Because of new technology, we couldrecover all the oil froma small little foot print of land.

Not sure Fieldmouse, I'll try and do a little digging and see if I can find anything else he has written.

to try to answer the bolded sentence- isn't the author writing out of Anchorage? At least it says Anchorage at the top left of the article.

Localism would probably cost me a move to Alaska seeing as my wife can't get enough King Crab.

Some of this is going on by me right now. We have a local organic farm by us that has whatamounts to a weekly vegetable package deal. You pay a weekly fee and you get a milk crate full of assorted , in season, fresh vegetables. You are at the mercy of what is in season as to what is delivered in the crate. I think one of our neighbors is going to give it a shot for a while.

Thanks wahoo for the interesting article.

I saw that when I loooked for the contact link. Makes the question even more interesting since he is from there. Majority of Alaskans want the feds out of their backyard so they can make more money.

This was a very good article and IMO very accurate.
I just find it strange coming from the very newspaper that helped to establish and maintain the reputation
of hunters as unethical gap-toothed wiskey-swilling inbred idiot slobs, the perception of firearms as evil semi-sentient things which CAUSE death and destruction (rather than IMPLEMENTING it), of furthering the image of Bambi as a viable anthropomorphic image for Americans to conjure up rather than a plate of savory cutlets ready to be shared at the family table, the condemnation of hunting as a despicable 'blood sport', and the continued and incessant support of socialist efforts to abrogate our Amendment II rights. Very strange indeed. Welcomed, but very strange...
