RE: Dumb As We Wanna Be: Good Article on Gas Tax
Too bad this guy doesn't read his own paper. Yesterday it was pointed out that the central reason we find ourselves in this position is because investment in new oil resources hasn't kept up with demand. National take over of the oil industies and bad political choices have left us in this pinch. This author falls victim to his own title of his article. Once again only looking for alternative energy as the savor not invesytment in new oil resources.
Someday, when oil hits maybe $8.00 a gallon people might wake up and see the bigger picture. The oil infrastructure is so large that in order to recreate that same infrastructure will cost over a trillion dollars to do. That means gas needs to hit even higher then $8.00 per gallong to justify both the making and distribution of an alternative source. There is one alternative source closertoday then anything else but it would require a total change in society. That's natural gas. The infrastructure is already over half way built out. However the entire resource would need to be redirected from in home use (replace that with electric or propane) and direct it towards autos. Then we would still require more drilling anyway and more infrastrcture build out.
