Just heard on the news... Kansas is legalizing full auto assault weapons, sawed off shotguns, and silencers, effective July 1. Need to pass two federal background checks, and local law enforcement approval.
Compliance with the federal rules is still required. Kansas had a ban which was more restrictive than the federal regulation. Even federally licensed gun dealers in Kansas were prevented from possessing these weapons and, as a result, law enforcement was unable to buy from local sources. The new law removes the Kansas ban, thereby enabling acquisitions which comply with the federal rules.
I misread your first post. Thanks for the link. Kansas hasn't exactly been known for its lax gun laws, so this is a step in the right direction for owners in the state.
Silencers? Cool! Aren't they legal in most US states?
I would never use a rifle without one (legal here)
We don't have common sense laws in our country over silencers and further more there is a whole lot of ignorance about them. We still have prohibition era federal laws governing the possession of silencers. You can buy them, after you get approval from the local Chief Law Enforcement Officer (approval is at his whim and based on his predjudices), fill out a ream of paperwork (make any errors and you need to start all over), get fingerprinted, submit a stool, blood, DNA, and semen sample (I'm actually kidding about that one, but its not far from the truth)and pay $200 to the Federal Government for the 'privilege' of purchasing a silencer. Even after going through all of that, you'll have hunters at the shooting range giving you dirty looks or asking you "WTF do you need that for, are you going to assassinate somebody!?" and those are the ones that don't simply call the police on you right away.
A guy locally just got caught with an 'unpapered' silencer and is facing 6 years in the federal pen.
