Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Republicans Block a Law on Equal Pay for Women

Why can't folks have their day in court? How is someone supposed to know they are getting paid less based on their sex? I think a person should have leeway to bring this type of action. The GOP would rather they did not!

"Senate Republicans said on Tuesday that they were confident they would be able to block legislation intended to reverse a Supreme Court ruling last year that established tight time restrictions on lawsuits over pay discrimination.

Even if the bill stalls, the fight over the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act "” named for the Alabama woman who lost her case at the Supreme Court "” is likely to resurface in both the presidential and Congressional campaigns. Democrats and others argue that the legislation is needed to ensure pay equity, an important issue with women."

The title of your thread is completely misleading, don't you think? The Republicans aren't blocking a law on equal pay for women. They're blocking a law making it easier for people who feel they've received lesser pay because of their gender to file a lawsuit. There's a big difference there.

I do think the GOP should get over the filibuster and allow the bill to go to the Senate floor for an up-and-down vote. I hate the practice of the filibuster. It sucks when Democrats use it, and it sucks when Republicans use it.

As for the bill itself, I'm undecided about it, but in general I'm not comfortable with legislation that makes it easier to file lawsuits. We have way too much of that already.

Yep, the Republicans sure do know how to pick their fights in an election year.

I don't usually have much use for what the Democrats put out, but I see nothing wrong with the bill itself. I wonder if the riders on the bill might not actually be the issue here.

Until Congess grows a pair and passes a Tort Reform bill, I will welcome this legislation. I think the GOP can spin this to their advantage if they make the effort.

Give me a fricking break. Studies have shown there is no discrimination in pay between the gender and work. When you strip away the BS, hours, jobs, it doesn't exist.

I am usually suspiscious when a new report comes out on how women earn less per year than their male counterpart, but never break it down and compare hourly rates.

In my line of work, there is no difference in pay due to gender.
