Authorities have said Schallenberger bought the ammonium nitrate off eBay and that company said it's cooperating in the investigation.
I'm not going to debate or trial this kid on this board. He is in enough hot water and deserves his day in court. I also have a hard time with second hand information from the PR guy andfiltered by reporters.
On the other hand, I find it very funny that anything to do with firearms are band from ebay, yet bomb making materials are "OK".

Maybe because most people don't use Ammonium Nitrate to blow things up,they use it for it's intended purpose. Also i could be wrong but you don't have to have a special license to purchase Ammonium Nitrate, where as with firearms they have to be transferred to someone with an FFL.
I guess I may be wrong but wasn't some sort of ID registration put in place before you could purchase this stuff? I know they we looking at some sort of chemical signiture to enable the tracing back to the point of purchase.

You can make a flour bomb that will kill just as well as a fertilizer bomb. There are many household substances that can be made into powerful bombs.

That would be for massive quantities. Kind of like buying ephedrine. If you buy a pack of cold pills, no problem. But if you try to buy multiple packs, an alarm goes off. ephedria is the main ingredient for cooking meth. You will also get pulled aside if you try to buy multiple lithium batteries, or batteries and ether starter fluid. Each is not illegal, but can be used for more malaise purposes. So the regulations are usually on quantity. If you have ever bought miracle grow, you just bought ammonium nitrate.

I'm not one to stand around and watch over it. Seriously though, I do believe that fireworks should be legal. I buy a whole bunch all the time form my son to play with. What better fun then to blow up an Ant hill, a hornets nest or the neighbor's cat?
