I've never been a big fan of calling for someone to be fired because of something they said. But as Jim Zumbo and Don Imus found out, if your ignorant comments offend enough people, you'll be canned. I find Bill Maher to be the biggest bigot in American entertainment today. His ignorant comments got him fired once but landed him another lucrative role. Fortunately for everyone who doesn't want to listen to his hateful rhetoric, he was taken away from a nationwide audience and relegated to an audience made up of those silly enough to actually pay extra for HBO.
The site is right: If he was making those comments about Jews or even Muslims, he'd already be unemployed. But Catholics can't expect the press to fight their fight for them as they would Jews or Muslims, so they'll have to take up their own arms and put pressure on HBO if they want him removed from the airwaves. If they couldn't muster enough muscle to prevent The Da Vinci Code from being filmed, I doubt they'll get riled up too much about a dorky looking man with an obscenely big nose who talks out of his south hole more than his north hole.

Maher is an arse who I believe is a PETA member and a spokesman for the kind of self-importantliberal elitism that makes me want to wretch...plus, he's just not funny. However, he has a point about the Catholic Church, imo. Since it seems they have systematicaly covered up child abuse, why shouldn't we bring the tanks into the cathedral as well??

There's certainly no love lost between the Catholic church and myself, but there's a big difference between degrading the church and degrading the church's members. I know many Catholics who had nothing to do with covering up child abuse, and these are the people that Maher refers to as being gay, out of touch with reality, etc. Obviously he's free to say that, but there has been much outrage over much lesser comments about the Islamic religion. In fact, I'll bet you that if a commentator said the sorts of things about Muslims that Maher routinely says about Catholics, there would be at least 1 or 2 presidential candidates calling for him to be censored.

I understand Griswold and you would never find me defending any action of that smarmy basturd B. Maher, but I still believe that no matter how many good members the catholic church has, it, as an entity was involved in sytematic child abuse cover-up... with little consequence.

RE: Bill Maher
I pay no mind to his dribble. He is nothing more than a shock jock who pushes an anti religious left wing message. He is not worth listing too. He does not believe what he cries about, he worships the almighty dollar. And he knows by being as shocking as possible, he will continue to get air time, which means $$$$$$$$$$
