Every now and then one of these global warming discussions gets started. I was doing work as an undergrad mapping climate change back in the 90's before the subject was popular. We were doing it for reasons other than getting hippies excited. There is a warming trend, and it isn't new. The issue shouldn't be whether global warming is happening, it is happening. The earth is getting warmer s-l-o-w-l-y. And there is no way to predict within a time scale relevant to human behavior whether it is going to continue getting warmer, or start cooling off. It could just sit there at the same temperature for 500 years. You never really know. Every time they need an expert to talk this up, they inevitably get a meteorologist or some other type of "climate scientist" that equates. Using a meteorologist try and predict climate change is like using a tire tool to change spark plugs. It's geology, not meteorology.

i agree with everything you've said for the most part, however, i beleive that with the current situation atmospheric sciences must be applied. Granted, the time scales with which we are dealing with occur over geologic time scales, but that is the problem. Using data since the industrial revolution and the latest innovative technology, current predictions are that the temp will increase 3 degrees celcius over the next 100 years. And, while the earth and atmosphere are more than well equipped to handle such an increase, it has never handled such an increase in such a short time period.
Yes its an op-ed, but it has a lot more facts than anything that Algore ever presented as factual.

Warming trends and cooling trends- they happen whether we want them to or not. People falsifying or tampering with data to use it for purposes of controling public policy is something completely different.

You mean things like asteroid strikes, massive eruptions, things like that? In modern history we have had Krakatoa, Paracutin, Mt. St Helens, Monserrat, and a couple of others I can't think of right now. Those things alone have done more than our pitiful contribution over the entirety of human history. I think we do more environmental damage with chemicals than we do with gas emissions. Mexico excluded. Chemicals that get in the soil and water will kill us before global warming. Unless there's an asteroid out there they're not telling us about...

Oh I definitely agree with you, I mean honestly it isn't even safe to drink of a plastic container that has been microwaved, dishwashed, etc. because there is the possibility of chemical leakage....and as chemical leakage into water systems, a lot people forget about your basic PCPs such as soap, toothpaste, cologne, etc...it hasn't been until recently that people have even begin studying the affect of these things on the environment....dont even get me started on idiots who flush medicines down the toilet, sheesh!

Once again trying to use data based on known flawed models.
