Heard this on the drive into work. Apparently a lady was concerned that a couple of kids might hurt themselves by falling out of a tree they were climbing. She told the kids father that they probably shouldn't be climbing around "like monkeys." The kids were black. The lady has been given a $75 ticket for some offense I can't recall, and she is now a FORMER Obama delegate as she was asked to resign...
I think it was an over-reaction. This reminds me of the famous Howard Cosell incident when he called a football player a 'little monkey'. Folks are too sensitive. Or perhaps too worried about someone calling them racist.

RE: Obama supporter a "racist"
What about the college student who got put in jail for telling the girls, in the apt. above him, to quit stomping on the floor. He said, "you sound like a herd of buffalo". It just so happened they were black. When the guy called the cops to have the party broke up, they came and busted him. The girls told the cops that he was calling them racial slurs. I dont remember what came of this. It was in the late 90s. I can only guess the charges got dropped. If I had been him, id brought on a wrongful imprisonment suit.
My question, why can I be called a c racker, honkey, etc.and its fine. Is this not a double standard that goes agianst the whole priciple of racial equality?

Should have let it go, but didn't. Does that say anything about the Obama campaign, when they force her out over nothing?
Actually, if you look at the link you posted, it does not even say that the Obama people forced her out. See how rumors get started?
Well, hold on for the latest! The Obama folks were not out to get the woman.
"CARPENTERSVILLE, Ill. (WBBM) - A Carpentersville village trustee who got into hot water for a comment that some interpreted as racist says she is NOT resigning as a delegate for Barack Obama after all.
WBBM's Regine Schlesinger has the latest on the story.
Ben Labolt, a spokesman for the Obama campaign, says that, on Monday, Linda Ramirez-Sliwinski told the campaign she would step down as a delegate for the Senator at the Democratic National Convention.
That came after Carpentersville police issued Ramirez Sliwinski a $75 disorderly conduct ticket for calling some African-African neighborhood children "monkeys" as they were climbing a tree.
Carpentersville Mayor Bill Sarto says he talked with Ramirez Sliwinski today and she told him she has no intention of resigning as an Obama delegate. Sliwinski has said her remark was in no way, intended to be a slur on blacks.
Mayor Sarto says the whole thing is a tempest in a teapot and the Obama campaign says it's her choice whether to remain as a delegate.
Sarto tells Newsradio 780 he also he wishes police in his town had not given Ramirez-Sliwinski the $75 disorderly conduct ticket for referring to African-American boys as "monkeys" as she ordered them out of a tree near her home.
Sarto said Ramirez-Sliwinski is definitely not a racist. He says she has never once uttered a racial slur in the three years he's worked closely with her. Ramirez-Sliwinski is a Carpentersville village trustee.

Sarto said "I hear parents every day refer to their kids as 'little monkeys.'"

Sarto said the officers did what they think was right on the scene, and he won't try to intervene in a police personnel matter, but he says he believes Ramirez-Sliwinski did nothing wrong.

When exactly is this?
Was it in the same dormitory as the youngsters? Is it in some locker room? I think you're mixing apples and oranges.
And I don't think you being called such names is fine. Who does?
I"m in education. I have parent meeting all the time. When I do not tell a person of color what they want to here, the first thing that comes out of a majority of the parents mouth is, "your just a racist c racker", as well as many other horrid things. I have even had meetings with parents with law enforcement involved. I get called such terms as well as the cops, and the law doesn"t even bat an eye. I will state here that this is usually from persons who are not fine members of society, but more of the derelicts. With that said, it still gets no air time, no fines, etc. Change that around and see how fast I get busted. I"d also like to mention, my brother is black. I"m very familiar with both cultures. There is a big double standard. As my brother says," it"s just not right. Racism is racism." That is my point. The relevance is; This women should have never been fined for something that is a double standard. I call my kids little monkeys, am I making a racial slur?
I was not posting on the Obama association, but the double standard we see on a daily basis.

Let the spinning begin... The article I cited said:
Quote:
A Barack Obama supporter has given up her role as a pledged delegate after the campaign found "unacceptable" her description of her neighbor"s children as "monkeys," which she says she called them because they were climbing in trees.
Linda Ramirez-Sliwinski, an a Hispanic trustee for the Village of Carpentersville, Ill., was accused of racism following the interaction with her African-American neighbors.
"Given the incident, she is stepping down and will be replaced as delegate," Ben Labolt, a spokesman for the Obama campaign told FOXNews.com, calling Sliwinski"s remarks "unacceptable."
The campaign discussed the incident with Ramirez-Sliwinski, who decided to step aside as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in August, Labolt said.
So, the campaign found the remarks unacceptable, took her behind close doors to discuss the matter, and she then "decided to step down all by herself..." Yeah, right.
I bet that the campaign felt a bit of backlash from white voters for overreacting to an innocuous incident, and has changed its tune. Since the meeting occurred behind closed doors, no one will know the truth, as Obama is, well... let's just say he plays "fast and loose" with the facts.
