RE: Hillary Says Bush Should Skip Olympic Opening Ceremonies
This is so rich. Coming from somebody who accepted so many illegal donations from the Chinese. Perhaps they haven't been donating to her enough lately???

While I dont ususallylike anything the comes from Hillarys forked tongue, she's right this time. A little public humiliation at the Olympics might be just what China needs to see the error in its ways.
RE: Hillary Says Bush Should Skip Olympic Opening Ceremonies
I don't know that it would do any good. Nice warm and fuzzy idea, but does anyone really think boycotting the opening ceremonies means a damn thing to the Reds?
Really?
They care nothing for Human rights, and have not heeded the whole worlds pleas about Tibet, and they'll cave because we don't attend the ceremonies? C'mon.
RE: Hillary Says Bush Should Skip Olympic Opening Ceremonies
A snub like that would embarrass them, but it wouldn't lead to any lasting political change. I still think we should kill them with kindness. They're doing a great job damagingtheir countryfrom within. The people will tire of bureaucratic mismanagement sooner or later.
RE: Hillary Says Bush Should Skip Olympic Opening Ceremonies
Righto.
They don't run their form of Govt. on opinion polls.
Remember Tiananmen Square, though.
Following the violence, the government conducted widespread arrests to suppress protestors and their supporters, cracked down on other protests around China, banned the foreign press from the country and strictly controlled coverage of the events in the PRC press.
Members of the Party who had publicly sympathized with the protesters were purged.
Not much changed after a huge demonstration that garnered worldwide attention.
What will come of us boycotting? Nothing.
RE: Hillary Says Bush Should Skip Olympic Opening Ceremonies
Also keep in mind that protests are increasing in size and frequency from different parts of the country. China is obviously a big country, and public discontent with Beijing is getting lower all thetime. With cellphones and the Internet, dissidents are being heard more than ever.
I don't want to overestimate the long-term effects of the Olympics this summer, but I think China will be different afterwards. Of course, we could see more patriotism than disobedience in the end, but I think the Chinese people will see themselves a little differently after they and their country are broadcast around the world. I'm sure there will be no shortage of Western commentators and political protesters getting airtime along with the games.
