Default Osama Bin Laden's Motives?

Summary: Osama bin Laden's attacks on the United States were aimed at another audience: the entire Muslim world. Hoping that U.S. retaliation would unite the faithful against the West, bin Laden sought to spark revolutions in Arab nations and elsewhere. War with America was never his end; it was just a means to promote radical Islam. The sooner Washington understands this, the better its chances of winning the wider struggle.

The entire article is not accesible at this site unless it is purchased, however, what do y'all think about this? Simply the summary should spark some interesting conversatoin I think

It was one reason, although not the primary or even secondary objective, I believe.

Well then I give him an "F". It hasn't happen. The same folks are pissed and have problems with their economies. The ones that are looking for leadership in the west are booming.

I suggest you read beyond the NYT and look at the numbers coming from the middle east today. Many are having major trouble with inflation, food and healthcare. Some are booming, welcoming the west by modeling what works. After your homework report is done, please post it and let me know what you find.

FYI, just prodding you to read more about the world you live in from other sources.

Well funny you should make this post today. I've been completely out of touch. Found a place where I think I want to buy some land and move to because cell phones won't work. Anyway, I've been without my newspapers and finally got to read one of my favorites, the WSJ. Everything I've said was backed up in the article with regards to this thread and more. In regards to this thread they are there in print, read about it tomorrow when you wake up. It's in Thursday's Journal. As for my other comments with respect to our leadership and respect around the world, one only has to look at those folks who are in a major panic about our downturn. FYI, China is worried and that isonly one of the countries out there. We lead the world through our economic power. If you tuely are about stabalizing our country and easing the economiccycles we face, then allowing more economies and markets to come on lineso that all of our countries in theWTO can compete will be the ruling force. Bin Laden for allthe money his father wasted on him and his education, has failedto accomplish any major goal except kill a relatively small number of people and get some headlines. The end resulthas been the majority of his cronies/lackies captured and/or killed and he is playing king of the hill in a place nobody is challenginghim the throw him off. That is if he is still alive which is still in questioned.

Totally agree. He did make quite a stir in the USA: Scared the crap out of the sheeple. When the sheeple are scared thepolitical hacks act in haste. The 9/11 attacks caused the creation of anotherbloated and expensive feel good agency.Itcame about because it wasUS government policy togivehi-jackers the airplane.
