Default It's the oil companies fault....or is it?

So, I thought I'd wait a day or two to post this. I thought surely, those of you who were screaming about high fuel prices, the need for alternative fuels, the desire to get off foreign oil would have piped up all ready. I guess not.

Two days ago, our elite Senators dragged 5 oil executives before them a tried to point their fingers at them for our high gas prices at the pump. Personally I don'tknow why their Senators. Clearly they have more experience in producincing oil, NOT! Those of you who continue to blame oil companies, I hope you were paying attention.Oil companies profits just over 8%.The Senatorsthrew the 40 billion in profits Exxon made last year only to get egg back on their own. Exxon is spending 125 billion over the next 5 years finding new oil sources. The Senators were trying to pressure oil companies to spend more of their money on alternative sources. That was a good exchange. Basically Exxon said why? There is currently nothing in the pipe line that is an alternative to oil. We need to spend our resources on finding new oil not this myth of alternativefuels.

So what is the Dem's plan for prices at the pump? Raise them higher. They want to cut the small tax break the oil companies get, there by raising the cost for oil exploration. The worst part is, I bet most of the folks on this board who demanded to see the oil execs get theirs one more time never paid attention to find out why we really have the prices at the pump.

I and others havebeen repeatedly saying we have plenty of oil right here in our own country to become energy independent. I've also said we will be an oil based economy for your lifetime, your kids lifetime, and your grandkids lifetime. The problem is we aren't allowed to drill. Lately, we had the hoax of global warming being thrusted on us. Well it turns outour prediction is showing the real reallity. We already know about the vast reserves in Alaska and the Gulf. We also know there a potentially huge reserves off both coasts. Now a new report has come out and will be updated in regards to the huge reserves in ND, SD and Mt. The report is claiming 200 to 300 billion barrels of oil are now recoverable in those states because of modern technology.

If congress would get out of the wayand quit blocking our own exploration in the rest of the areas of the USA, we would see and instant drop in oil prices tomorrow. OPEC would realise we are serious and they wouldincrease their own production. This would leadto a drop the oil pricesand make our own oil less attractive to go after. They would do this just to stay in control of the market.

You have made some pretty good points, now explain to me something.. How come in the 70s the price of gas went up much higher than heating oil? Today it is now completely the opposite? In the 70s they stated it was because there wasn't enough refineries to produce enoughgasoline. With hurricane Katrina wiping out some of thier refineries the price of gasoline went up and when cold weather started moving in up went the price of heating oil to a point much higher than gasoline. So who is buffaloing who?

ThoughI do believe the term global warming to be a hoax, I still believe that climate change is coming.. Climate change in the wayI believe it to be is not man made.. Even with a record amount of snowfall here in Northern Maine this year it would be far to easy to say that it doesn't exist. The earths climate has been changing for way to many years to say it can not happen.. I do not believe in making more oil refineries on the gulf to be wiped out by more hurricanes can be a wise investment for any company to make. A couple of big hurricanes and where would we be. It would be like putting more and more houses in the path of mudslides in Ca. wouldn't it..

Heating oil is diesel fuel only not purified through filters as much (that from what I was told when I owned several deisels). In a refinery, they must change set ups constantly depending on what the desired product is going to be. They are right now changing them to refumulate for the summer. All 20 or so different formulations. The good new is for you who want heating oil and diesel, the industry is reacting but it will take a few more years to see the result. Just north of you across the border is a new refinery being built that will be dedicated to deisel.

GREAT point Fieldmouse!

I work for a oil company that everyone on here should lookup on the web. www.rockwellpetroleum.com Wetake a oil field & "stand it on its head".
We can move into a old oilfield that covers 400-acres & reduce the land disturbance to less than 40-acres. We take out the old pump jacks & roads thenreclaim 90% of the land to its natural state. We have one oilfield in Wyoming that is fully developed & drilling is ongoing. We get our oil production from the bottom up. Oil production has beenrobust to say the least.
This oilfieldhas been for the most part fully reclaimed& is now some great pheasent hunting.

cheers,

WK

I just looked real quick but could find the name. As I recall, It was in the WSJ about a month ago. It was talking about refining capacity and specifically mentioned this company and it's banking on the growth of diesel. So the were building a new refinery in east Canada dedicated the diesel.

Fieldmouse is right on point. I heard the other day that oil companies make 8 cents per gallon above cost for finding, gathering and processing for the pumps, while the gubment makes $.40 to $.50 per gallon for doing nothing.

Very excellent post indeed. From what you said, it seems that it is entirely our governments fault. We are at the mercy of the oil producing countries, while we don't have to be. If the government finally lets us tap into our oil, it would most likely relieve these prices, but our leaders don't want too. All they want to do is get rich from our current oil supply.

usually new refineries are for local and provincial markets only and not for export, however i did find this article.

http://www.cbc.ca/canada/new-brunswick/story/2006/10/04/nb-newrefinery.html

and more recently this article:

http://www.bp.com/genericarticle.do?categoryId=2012968&contentId =7042480

interesting scuttle butt going around here is that there is opposition to this new refinery/expansion for reason of carbon emissions affecting the town and surrounding areas. carbon footprint crapola.

The oil / gas prices have not really increased, but the value of our dollar has gone down. Thus to people who buy with American dollars it feels like oil prices have skyrocketed.

If our government would stop printing money for fix problems, inflation would stablize and we wouldn't pay more for oil / gas.
