Interesting how the story comes out of London.

The beach is actually called Woman's Head Beach...[8D][:'(]

this could be an april fools joke...or maybe she was an non muslim.

I wonder if those kids are getting counsellingafter their gruesome discovery.

Afriend of mine is a retired British army colonel who lives in Scotland. He recently had his .308 rifle destroyed becauseof the hassle from the cops.

Falcon, I'd like to know more on that story about your friend's hassle.

So here we have a head and a hand in a bag wash up on a beach, probably ocean side, could have come from anywhere. Head and hand chopped off sounds like a muslim sharia law thing.

"Falcon, I'd like to know more on that story about your friend's hassle"

It seems like the cops can visit your house anytime of the day or night in Scotland to ensure that your gun is properly locked up.They were visiting his home on a regular basis because of his rifle.

definitely a hassle, here all firearms must be registered and cops can come in to verify storage if called to the residence for disturbances.

A woman whose head was found in a plastic bag on a beach in Scotland has been identified.[/b]

She was a 36-year-old from Brechin, Angus in Scotland, who had been reported missing by her employer, police said.

The head was discovered by two young sisters as they played on the beach in Angus.
A police search of the beach later discovered two severed hands.

Det. Chief Insp. Graham McMillan, senior investigation officer, said an overwhelming response from the public led to the breakthrough.

"The response to the appeals made in the media to date has been phenomenal and has, without doubt, led to us identifying this woman," he said. "I'd like to thank those members of the public who did get in touch for their assistance."

Attempts were being made to contact the woman's next-of-kin.

"We will be speaking to a number of people over the course of the day in a bid to establish the woman's last known movements, when she was last seen, and to establish the circumstances of her death," McMillan said.

And America is this perfect utopia that doesn't have crime.

Im sure there have been similar cases there too and this is rare. I was shocked.

As for guns, the majorty of my friends all own rifles/shotguns and have no problems. Hmm.
falcon, my dad has several guns and has had them for years. We do not visits from the police. They came once before he boughthis gunsto check out his gun safe which has to be of a good standard. So we like to be safe and careful. I would rather have that.

I think that is just one persons bad luck unless something has provoked the police because we've had no problems.

Americans do have a tendancy to generalise, case in point. GUNS and crimes in other countries but their own. Maybe you should see for yourselves instead of judging. Scotland's crime rate is not that bad, we don't have drive by shootings or car jackings like i hear about in the US.

Ask any Ex pat American. Yes we get some stabbings around in Glasgow and murders but not to the extent of the US. And trust me we aint no utopia but we dont have trigger happy loonies either.

Im sorry but to bring up one crime that is pretty extreme and rare compared to the crimes you get over there, what a cheek. My Expat American boyfriend is laughing. I forgot you mention the crime here to take our minds off of the extreme crime there.

Take it easy.

To prove that I am not lying

127 murders - population around 577,869
The Glasgow Murder rate is only slightly lower than Flint which has a population of 124,943 and had 28 murders. Flint and Saginaw usually battle for 2nd place in the state behind Detroit.
Comparison to other American Cities and areas.
MichiganSource Michigan state Police)
Detroit - 366 murders(2003), 925,000 people
Grand Rapids (2nd largest city) - 11 murders(2003), 197,800 people.
Saginaw - 16 murders(2003), 61,799 people (2nd in state and higher than Glasgow and Flint)
Southfield(Majority black) - 2 murders, 78,000 people
Other Cities (FBI report, includes non-negligent homicide as well - 2003)
Tuscon AZ - 47 murders, 514,618 people
Denver CO - 63 murders, 565,909 people
Washington DC - 248 murders, 563,384 (Total gun ban)
Jacksonville FL - 92 murders, 776,417 people
Indianapolis - 107 murders, 800167 people
Baltimore MD - 270 murders, 644544 people
Charlotte NC - 66 murders, 668003 people
Columbus OH - 109 murders, 726151 people
Oklahoma City - 49 murders, 521,681 people
Portland OR - 27 murders, 545271 people
Memphis TN - 126 murders, 653,858 people
Nashville TN - 74 murders, 554,888 people
Austin TX - 27 murders, 682,319 people
El Paso TX - 21 murders, 586,392 people
Fort Worth TX - 57 murders, 576339 people
San Antonio TX - 85 murders, 1,212,789
Seattle WA - 34 murders, 576,296
Milwaukee WI - 109 murders, 594,269
There are others with both higher (Philly) and lower rates(San Jose). I mostly stuck with those cities about the same size as Glasgow.

Its not the guns, its the people. Believe me i will shoot anyone who breaks into my home or threatends my family. I am all for the right to bear arms. But laws are laws and i have to abide them here in my country. But i would get arrested for shooting someone with my dads shotgun, sucky.
