White House hopeful Barack Obama suggests he would have left his Chicago church had his longtime pastor, whose fiery anti-American comments about U.S. foreign policy and race relations threatened Obama's campaign, not stepped down.
"Had the reverend not retired, and had he not acknowledged that what he had said had deeply offended people and were inappropriate and mischaracterized what I believe is the greatness of this country, for all its flaws, then I wouldn't have felt comfortable staying at the church," Obama said Thursday during a taping of the ABC talk show, "The View." The interview will be broadcast Friday.

bergall is absolutely right. The chickens come home to roost sermon was just after 9/11, 6 1/2 years ago. How many YEARS after Wright says these ridiculous, hateful, racist things does Obama react? Clearly, he is lying, because he was with the Church without so much as saying a word about it until he was called on the carpet for it. And even then, he stood up for Wright, implying that it was only a few percent of his sermon that is so vile. Well, raw sewage is 98% water too, but I wouldn't drink it!
that church hasn't changed one bit since Obama started going is what I understand, its just that now most people know about how racist a church it is
from what i've heard and read, apparently the attitude of Rev. Wright's church is not isolated to that one church. It is a popular theme across many african american churches and as one man put it "white americans didn't seem to care what was going on in african american churches until the news with obama hit...and wasn't fox news the first to put the news out? imagine that.

You're spinning like a top, wahoohunter. Yes, more than just this one black church spew that sort of vile from their pulpits. And no stink has really been raised about it. But we've never had a presidential candidate who was a member of such a church. That sorta changes the face of the issue, don't you think? It's sorta like Fred Phelps' white church in Kansas. Most people just ignore them, but if a presidential candidate emerged from that church, you better know there would be a big stink raised. That's sorta a "duh" concept. At least to most folks.
BUT, that isn't even the issue here. The issue here is that Barack Obama is once again attempting to pull the wool over everyone's eyes by saying that had Wright not retired and admitted his comments were offensive, he would've stopped going to that church. And any person capable of thinking for themselves clearly sees that Obama knew about this long ago, and never made any effort to denounce his pastor. If he didn't know about those sermons (the very idea of which makes me LOL), why did he not let Wright appear on stage with him when he announced his candidacy because of the reverend's polarizing image? And Obama makes his comment as if Wright is choosing to retire due to all the bruhaha over these statements. Another misleading statement, as Wright's retirement was in the works well before this story broke. Oh, and at which news conference was it that the reverend admitted that his statements were offensive? I must've missed it. Nobody is fooled. Nobody except perhaps you. And I don't think you're fooled (at least I HOPE not; I would hope that no one is that naive). No, I think you're just desperately trying to defend your man, but it's almost pointless on this issue.
Oh, and, no, it wasn't Fox News that broke this story. Several magazines, such as Newsmax, had reported on Obama's church in recent months. But among the mainstream media, it was ABC News that broke the story.

I have been to black churches and I have watched many black pastors on TV, never heard one of them say the things Rev Wright said. Now, I did graduate from Va State Univ. a Black College, very Black. I was often the only white kid on campus it seemed. 5500 students and only a hand full of whites. I heard this same speach from many of my professors throughout my yrs at Va State. I had a professor that actually told our class he believed that America or White Europeans planted AIDS in Africa to kill blacks. Im not taken back by these comments from Wright, I know lots blacks that feel this way, and Im actually friends with some of them. It is their opinion, though I tell them it's wrong, they still respect me. Do I think Rev Wright is really a racist?? Not really. I think he is angry and I think feeds off of his church congregation. I am a historian, and I know from studying African-American History in-depth, that the chuch has always been a place for social and political vices. This dates back to Reconstruction, it was the only place that blacks could say what they felt without being lynched. At least right away. The point is, don't get too worked up over this guy, he ain't by himself, and he is not running for president!!
